The show even features arguably the greatest actor on the planet, Meryl Streep. But there are still a ton of actors who would be a great addition totheOnly Murders in the Buildingcastwho haven’t joined the show yet.

He made his name as both a member of the “Frat Pack” alongside Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn and a member of Wes Anderson’s repertory company alongside Bill Murray and Anjelica Huston. He’s given outrageous comic performances in movies likeWedding CrashersandStarsky & Hutch, but he’s also given more soulful turns in films likeMidnight in ParisandThe Royal Tenenbaums.
Wilson shares all the qualities that make Paul Rudd such a great addition to theOnly Murders in the Buildingcast. He’s disarmingly affable, fitting in with the warm, feel-good tone of the series. He’s just as adept at handling serious dramatic scenes as he is goofy comedic scenes. He’d be a perfect addition to this show’s sprawling ensemble.

Jennifer Aniston has made quite the comeback in the past couple of years with her roles inThe Morning Showon Apple TV+ and theMurder Mysterymovies on Netflix. If she joined the cast ofOnly Murders in the Buildingon Hulu, she could check off another major streaming service. Aniston is no stranger to sitcoms, having played Rachel Green onFriendsfor 10 seasons, and she’s perfectly attuned to the snappy comedic rhythm of the genre.
Aniston would make a great addition toOnly Murders in the Building. Over the years, she’s played both harmless, family-friendly comedy and raunchier, more adult-oriented comedy. She has such impressive range that she could pretty much play anyone; she could play another resident of the Arconia, she could play a detective working a murder case, or she could even play herself now that the series has crossed over into showbusiness.
8Bryan Cranston
Although Bryan Cranston is now best known for playing a mild-mannered chemistry teacher who transforms into a murderous monster inBreaking Bad, he originally started out in comedy. He played an unforgettable recurring role asperverted dentist Dr. Tim Whatley inSeinfeldand gave an even wackier performance as Hal inMalcolm in the Middle. Cranston’s post-Breaking Badguest turns inFamily Guy,Curb Your Enthusiasm, andIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiahave proven he can slip effortlessly back into comedy.
The offbeat premise ofOnly Murders in the Buildingrequires actors who can convey gravitas at a murder scene and goofiness in a comic situation, and seamlessly switch between the two. Cranston is one of the best in the business when it comes to this. His climactic monologue in hisAlways Sunnyepisode is a perfect example.
7Leslie Mann
Leslie Mann is one of the most recognizable comedy movie stars, and she’d make a terrific addition toOnly Murders in the Building. Not only is Mann a hilarious performer; she always brings some extra depth to her characters.This is 40is as much a bitter marital drama as it is a comedy. InBlockers, Mann gets plenty of laughs, but she also carries the melancholic insecurity of a mother who doesn’t want her daughter to grow up.
Mann would be ideal for a juicy, three-dimensional supporting role inOnly Murders in the Building. She would also crush a zanier one-off role in a single episode. Mann has given much broader performances in broader comedies likeThe BubbleandGeorge of the Jungle, so she could handle whatever kind of material is provided for her.
6Pedro Pascal
Pedro Pascal is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now. It seems that every producer in Tinseltown wants Pascal for their projects. He’s got a hit HBO show, the most popular original character from Disney-eraStar Wars, a key part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a starring role in a Ridley Scott blockbuster. He might be too big of a star for a guest spot in a sitcom, even if that sitcom isOnly Murders in the Building.
Having said that, this show has gotten Meryl Streep to appear across multiple seasons — and no actor would turn down the chance to share the screen with Martin and Short. There’s no question that Pascal is a great actor. But he’s also proven inDrive-Away DollsandThe Unbearable Weight of Massive Talentthat he’s a great comic performer, too.
5Aubrey Plaza
Aubrey Plaza is one of the few actors who can always deliver a great performance even if she’s dealing with not-so-great material. She even emerged unscathed fromDirty GrandpaandMegalopolis, which were both lambasted by critics who had to admit that Plaza was a bright spot. In recent years, after getting her start in comedy, Plaza has shown off her dramatic range with darker roles inThe White Lotus,Ingrid Goes West, andEmily the Criminal.
Plaza got her breakthrough role in the sitcom genre, playing April Ludgate inthe ensemble cast ofParks and Recreation. April established Plaza’s comedic sensibility with her dry humor, deadpan insults, and morbid interest in all things related to death, murder, and ghosts. That sensibility would be perfect for the crime-ridden world ofOnly Murders in the Building.
4Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy previously co-starred with Martin inone of his most underrated movies,Bowfinger. Murphy played dual roles as identical twins: one is a suave, charismatic A-list action movie star swayed by a Scientology-esque religion, while the other is his geeky brother, who Martin’s low-rent producer dupes into appearing in his film. While the former would be out of place inOnly Murders in the Building, the latter would be right at home.
Bowfingerestablished that Murphy and Martin have a great comic dynamic, sharply attuned to each other’s comedic timing. It would be fun to see that dynamic revisited inOnly Murders in the Building. Murphy has made a comeback recently with starring roles inDolemite is My Name,Coming 2 America, andBeverly Hills Cop: Axel F, so the timing couldn’t be better.
3Catherine O’Hara
After her delightfully eccentric turn asMoira Rose inSchitt’s Creekand her hilarious reprisal of Delia Deetz inBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, Catherine O’Hara is a bigger star than ever before. Those performances have proven that she’s still at the top of her game, so it could be time for a guest spot onOnly Murders in the Building. The brilliantly naturalistic yet unmistakably absurdist performing style that O’Hara perfected in Christopher Guest’s classic mockumentaries make her perfect forOnly Murders in the Building.
This wouldn’t be the first time that O’Hara has come aboard a sitcom to knock a guest role out of the park. She was hilarious as Marty Funkhouser’s institutionalized sister Bam Bam inCurb Your Enthusiasmseason 7, episode 1, “Funkhouser’s Crazy Sister.” She could bring a similar kooky energy toOnly Murders in the Building.

Ever since his breakout on the cast of Saturday Night Live, Will Ferrell has been one of the most unique and beloved comedic performers on the planet. With his roles inElf,Anchorman,Step Brothers, andThe Other Guys, Ferrell established an idiosyncratic blend of shameless absurdism and heartfelt earnestness that made him a hugely popular movie star.Ferrell’s recent turns inBarbieandQuiz Ladyhave proven he can still easily tap into that.
Ferrell’s unparalleled deadpan delivery style would make him a great addition toOnly Murders in the Building. He already gave unforgettable guest performances inThe OfficeandEastbound & Down, so he’s adept at hopping into the cast of a sitcom and making a lasting impression without much screen time. It would be a joy to see Ferrell interacting with Martin and Short.
1Chevy Chase
Two of the three stars of John Landis’Three Amigosare already inOnly Murders in the Building— it’s about time the third one joined them to complete the trifecta. Martin and Short previously co-starred inThree Amigos(as well asFather of the Bride,The Prince of Egypt, and a bunch of live stage shows) before headlining the cast ofOnly Murders in the Building. Their third amigo, Chevy Chase, has yet to appear in the Hulu mystery series.
Chase shared a hilarious comic dynamic with both Martin and Short inThree Amigos. His brash, obnoxious on-screen persona clashed brilliantly with Martin’s deadpan everyman and Short’s dry-humored cynic. Since Martin and Short’s comedic personalities have transferred effortlessly toOnly Murders in the Building, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for Chase to join them.
