Iron Man’s initial identity reveal started the MCU out with a bang, and his decision has just been perfectly justified byBatman Unburiedof all things. Everyone knows that without Tony Stark, there wouldn’t be an MCU as fans currently know it.Iron Manended with him revealing his hero identity to the public, andwhile it was a questionable choice, it undoubtedly lined up with Tony’s personality. Some fans still have thoughts about his decision over a decade later, but another masked hero has just helped justify Tony’s actions.

Surprisingly, the hero is from Marvel’s rival studio, DC. There are definitely some parallels betweenTony’s lifeand Bruce Wayne’s, as they both inherited a great deal of wealth after the passing of their respective parents. Both now try to use their money and smarts to help the community, though they have been known to prioritize their own interests in the past. A recent Batman release has taken Bruce’s story into a new direction, andthe story beat has indirectly helped justify Tony’s initial MCU decision.

Batman Unburied: Fallen City Highlights The Problem With A Superhero “Bodyguard”

The second season titled “Fallen City” of the scripted drama podcastBatman Unburiedwas recently released on Spotify. The series has been a breath of fresh air among Batman projects as it is a unique story medium focused entirely on sound. Fans have been enjoying the podcast, describing it as a bleaker take on a familiar story. In the latest season, it’s revealed thatpeople think that Batman is Bruce’s bodyguard. Because that would put the hero on Bruce’s payroll, they don’t trust him to have true intentions.

Bruce’s situation in “Fallen City” is a good reminder of what Tony avoided when he revealed his true identity as Iron Man so early on in the MCU.

The people of Gotham have also developed a distrust of Bruceas they think he’s turned to corruption to buy the city’s heroes for himself. Obviously, any follower of past Batman stories knows that’s not the case as the two are the same person. However, for the general public of Gotham who doesn’t know that, it’s not a ridiculous assumption for them to have. Bruce’s situation in “Fallen City” is a good reminder of what Tony avoided when he revealed his true identity as Iron Man so early on in the MCU.

Iron Man’s MCU Problems Would’ve Seemingly Only Increased If He’d Kept A Secret Identity

In the Marvel comics, many people are under the assumption that Iron Man simply works for and with Tony, much in the same way that’s described inBatman Unburied.Tony’s initial reveal was seen as an impulsive decision that only he would make, but Batman has just proven that it saved him plenty of complications. If the general public of the MCU had beenkept in the dark about Iron Man’s identity, they may have started jumping to the conclusion that two wealthy individuals were simply helping themselves.

I’m So Glad DC’s Most Underrated Batman Actor Has Returned For The Role In 2024

After over a year away from the DC role, one talented actor returned as The Dark Knight in 2024, and I’m glad to see them back as Batman.

The people of the MCU have overall been pretty accepting of the Avengers, but there have been moments of distrust in their intentions as explored inCaptain America: Civil War. Fortunately, most of the heroes have public identities, so the distrust in question didn’t really stem from corruption accusations.Tony is a well-known billionaire who undoubtedly would’ve been on the biggest receiving end of those questions, but Bruce’s situation inBatman Unburiedproves that he ultimately did the right thing by exposing his Iron Man identity.
