The9-1-1franchise willlose9-1-1: Lone Starfollowing its fifth season, meaning that one of my greatest hopes for the Texas-based show will never materialize. Fox’s procedural drama is a9-1-1spinoff and follows the lives of first responders (including firefighters, paramedics, and police officers) in Austin, Texas. Fox previously canceled9-1-1before it moved to ABC for its seventh season, while the network renewed9-1-1: Lone Starfor a fifth season, but it was only a matter of time before the spinoff was also nixed. Unfortunately for9-1-1: Lone Star, though, ABC won’t pick it up for more episodes.

9-1-1season 8, which will likely include around 18 episodes, premieres on Thursday, July 16, 2025, at 8 pm ET on ABC. Meanwhile,9-1-1: Lone Starseason 5 will have 12 episodes and premiere on Monday, June 09, 2025, at 8 pm ET on Fox.

The beginning of the end of9-1-1: Lone Starkicks off in late September 2024 with a three-part premiere revolving around a catastrophic train derailment. Season 5 will also deal withthe exit of Sierra McClain’s Grace Ryder, Carlos Reyes' new job as a Texas Ranger, Judd Ryder leaving Station 126 behind to take care of his son, Tommy Vega’s developing relationship with Pastor Trevor, and more. So,the9-1-1: Lone Starcharactershave a lot on their plate. As a result, there is seemingly no room for the addition of a9-1-1series regular in the spinoff.

911 Season 7 Finale Sets Up Eddie’s Transfer To 911 Lone Star

Christopher Moved To Texas To Live With His Grandparents

Duringthe ending of9-1-1season 7,Christopher discovered that his father, Eddie Díaz, was having an emotional affair with Kim,who looks identical to Eddie’s former wife and Christopher’s mother. Shannon. As some will recall,Shannon died in9-1-1season 2. So, seeing Eddie (who was dating Marisol) with Kim was a big shock to Christopher. The young boy contacted his grandparents, who then moved Christopher to Texas to live with them. After this heartbreak,I thought that Christopher moving to Texas would prompt Eddie to follow him, simultaneously transferring to Station 126.

Eddie’s transfer [to the 126 in9-1-1: Lone Star] could have been a great opportunity for him to grow as a character.

Peter Krause as Bobby Nash in 9-1-1.

Eddie joiningthe cast of9-1-1: LoneStarwouldhave been an exciting way to keep the spinoff tied to the original series despite the two shows being on different networks. Plus, Eddie’s transfer could have been a great opportunity for him to grow as a character. But now that9-1-1: Lone Starhas been canceled,Eddie will likely be stuck in Los Angeles, trying to cope with the loss of his son and girlfriend.

What To Expect From Eddie’s Story In 911 Season 8

Will Eddie Reunite With His Son?

Since Eddie stays at Station 118 in Los Angeles in9-1-1season 8, he might start to regress toward who he was at the beginning of the series.Eddie could also spiral without his son,and Vincent Gerard replacing Bobby Nash as 118’s captain certainly won’t help Eddie’s character development. Or perhaps Christopher moving to Texas will give Eddie the time he needs to grow. Whatever the case, fans should expect to see Eddie missing his son when9-1-1season 8 premieres, and it’s unclear when he will get to reunite with Christopher.

10 Most Intense Disaster Moments From 9-1-1

The Fox/ABC procedural drama TV series 9-1-1 has featured numerous intense natural and man-made disasters over the course of its seven seasons.

Buck’s relationship with Tommy will also affect Eddiein the upcoming episodes. Now that Buck is dating someone and Eddie isn’t, Buck will have less time for his best friend, especially since Christopher is no longer around. Buck essentially acts as a second father to Christopher. With him gone and Buck dating Tommy,Eddie and Buck’s relationship will change in9-1-1season8.
