Squid Game Was Right Not To Change The Iconic Green Tracksuits

Squid Game’s Green Tracksuits Are Too Iconic To Change

In an interview withThe Korea Times, Chae Kyoung-sun revealed that she and series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk considered changing the color of the tracksuits inSquid Gameseason 2. She even showed him a sample of a sky bue tracksuit design that could’ve replaced the green tracksuits. However,Hwang Dong-hyuk ultimately decided it was best to keep the tracksuits the same color they were in the first season. Chae Kyoung-sun said:

We considered making the uniform tracksuits sky blue. I showed director (Hwang Dong-hyuk) a sample, but after some thought, he said, ‘Let’s go back to green.’ In the end, it was the right decision not to change (the color). We would have been bombarded with complaints from fans.

Chae Kyoung-sun is right to claim that a lot of fans would have complained if the color of the tracksuits was changed inSquid Gameseason 2. Ever since the first season ofSquid Gamepremiered, the green tracksuits have become iconic. Even thoughSquid Gameis a very visually distinct series, changing the tracksuits from green to sky blue would have made the show’s second season less recognizable. Therefore, it was the right decision to keep the tracksuits green inSquid Gameseason 2.

Squid Game’s Visual Palette Is A Surprisingly Big Reason For Its Success

Squid Game Is A Visually Unique Show

Squid Gameis a very recognizable show because of its visual palette.Even people who don’t watchSquid Gamerecognize costumes from the show, such as the player’s tracksuits and the Masked Men’s uniforms. Changing the color of the tracksuits would have been just as bad as changing the guard’s uniforms, since these are arguably the most recognizable costumes inSquid Game.

There’s Only One Squid Game Player I Can Actually Imagine Surviving In Season 3

After the shocking ending of Squid Game season 2, season 3 is sure to be a bloodbath, yet there’s only one character I can see making it out alive.

The effectiveness ofSquid Game’svisual palette also extends to the show’s production design. In addition to the costumes remaining the same, prominent rooms such as the player’s sleeping quarters and the staircase room should never be altered that much. These rooms have also become iconic because of some of the best scenes inSquid Game. As is commonly said, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Therefore, it would have been distracting if the color of the tracksuits was different inSquid Gameseason 2.
