There’s plenty to be excited about for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. With multiple titles currently under development by major studios, from Rare’sEverwildto Playground Games’sFablereboot, there’s a variety of games that could make an appearance when the presentation airs on July 12, 2025. Yet, there’s one game above all else that I’m hoping will be making an appearance during the Xbox Games Showcase, that being Team Cherry’s long-anticipated sophomore title,Hollow Knight: Silksong.
While I was blindsided bySilksong’s appearance on the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, I was also left underwhelmed seeing the game receive a minor segment during the presentation’s sizzle reel. Now, with the game confirmed to be releasing this year, it is more vital than ever forSilksongto receive a more substantial showcase before its release. Not only is it likely thatSilksongwill feature in Microsoft’s upcoming presentation, butit would serve as the ideal place for Team Cherry to show just what it has to offer.

It’s not hard to see whyHollow Knight: Silksongcould make an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase in June. Of course, the game was featured in a previous showcase that was broadcast in June 2022, making it plausible forSilksongto do the same again with Microsoft’s upcoming presentation. But, more importantly, withSilksongset to release this year,it will be of high priority for Team Cherry to show off their highly-anticipated title to as wide an audience as possible to ensure the game’s success, something that the Xbox Games Showcase will be more than able to provide.

Microsoft has made no secret of its efforts to push players towards Game Pass as the premier location for the biggest releases in gaming. Knowing this,Microsoft would surely want to showcaseSilksongat its next presentation, as the game’s popularity would serve as a major boost to the overall appeal of Game Pass, making it an ideal inclusion for June’s Xbox Games Showcase.
Silksong Needs To Prove Itself As A Worthy Successor
Of course, another reason why I believeSilksongcould make an appearance during Microsoft’s upcoming presentation is becausethe game is in dire need of another showcase. Since its reveal in 2019, updates and showcases ofSilksonghave been few and far between, providing little information on the title’s progress. Moreover, whileSilksong’s initial trailer (viaYouTube) provided plenty of information about the game’s new additions,the lack of substantial updates has left fans such as myself scrambling for any slight hint of what else the game has to offer.
Hollow Knight: Silksongwas initially planned for release in 2023, but was delayed during that year. This served as the last major update for the game prior to its showcase during the Switch 2 Direct.
The little information provided aboutSilksong, combined with the game’s imminent release,puts developer Team Cherry in a crucial position. The unbelievable critical and commercial success thatHollow Knightreceived upon its release in 2017 puts a huge amount of pressure onSilksongto maintain its predecessor’s huge reputation.Not only mustSilksongprove itself as a worthy successor toHollow Knight, but it must find a way to assure fans that the game will be worth the 6-year-long wait, something a more substantial showcase would help to accomplish.

While there’s no guarantee thatHollow Knight: Silksongwill make an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, I can’t help but feel that it would be the perfect opportunity for the game to ensure its success. With a sizable audience likely tuning in for the event,the stage is set forSilksongto blow everyone away, while increasing anticipation for the game exponentially. There’s every possibilitySilksongcould show up at the next Xbox Games Showcase,and that has me way more excited about the presentation than before.
