Baylan Skoll’s goals inAhsokaare eerily reminiscent of oneStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordervillain’s character arc, so will they share the same end, too? BothStar Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderandAhsokaintroduced audiences to several new Order 66 survivors – whileFallen Orderprotagonist Cal Kestis remained a steadfast Jedi, especially once he’d been forced to reveal his true identity in front of Darth Vader’s Inquisitors, the other surviving Jedi introduced in these new Disney-eraStar Warsstories suffered a much darker and more dangerous twist of fate.

When they were introduced, the late Ray Stevenson’sBaylan Skoll inAhsokaandFallen Order’s Taron Malicos were fallen Jedi, their faith in the Order and what it stood for having waned in the wake of the Jedi’s genocide. While Baylan took on an apprentice and became a mercenary, hoping to fulfill his “destiny,” Taron Malicos became trapped in a cycle of violence on the planet Dathomir, entirely sure of his power and ability to wield the dark side.Though the trajectory of their lives may have differed somewhat, they certainly shared a concerning ideology.

Baylan Skoll Feels Like An Echo Of Fallen Order’s Taron Malicos

Baylan Skoll and Taron Malicos each had different experiences after Order 66, but their ultimate desires are overtly similar. Both Baylan and Taron felt a need to reform the Jedi, hoping to change the balance of power in the galaxy. While Baylan supposedly wanted to end the cyclical power struggle between the light side and the dark and would use the dark side to do so, Taron Malicos sought to use the dark side to create an order of his own. He believed in the superior power of the dark side and schemed to understand it better on Dathomir.

Additionally, they both wanted to pass on what they had learned to the next generation. Baylan Skoll, at some point, drafted his apprentice Shin Hati to work by his side and taught her how to use the Force. Malicos sought an apprentice too – inFallen Order, he tried to recruit Cal Kestis to his cause. Kestis was wary of Malicos’ true nature, however, and eventually discovered the “wanderer’s” darker side.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

From the creative team behind Titanfall 1, 2, and Apex Legends comes Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single-player action-adventure game set in the Star Wars Universe. Five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, players assume the role of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan that has managed to survive the outcome of the deadly Order 66, unlike many other Jedi. When Cal is found by Inquisitors seeking to hunt down the rest of the Jedi, he escapes and eventually finds a new former Jedi ally and begins to fight back against the empire to survive.

Perhaps most importantly, though,Skoll and Malicos were each involved with the Nightsisters, manipulating these Force-sensitive witches for their own personal gain. Baylan Skoll worked as a mercenary for Morgan Elsbeth because he wanted to make the dangerous journey to Peridea in another galaxy. Taron Malicos soughtthe power of the Nightsistersand remained on Dathomir to uncover their secrets, tricking one of the last remaining Nightsisters, Merrin, into believing that the Jedi were the ones to massacre her people during the Clone Wars, rather than the Separatists.

Like Taron Malicos, Baylan Claims To Desire Power

Much like Taron Malicos, Baylan’s ultimate desire is power. Despite trying to convince characters like Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and even his apprentice of the righteousness of his cause and the need for the cyclical good vs. evil conflict to come to an end, Baylan will need strength and power to accomplish his task. He believes he can find that power on Peridea in another galaxy. Once there, he essentially abandons his apprentice and follows the “voice” that influenced him from the other side of the universe.

Is Taron Malicos' Fate A Hint Of Baylan’s Own?

Eventually, Cal Kestis convinces Merrin that the Jedi were not responsible for the massacre of the Nightsisters and that Taron had been lying to her all along. Together, they took on Taron Malicos on Dathomir and defeated him, once and for all. To be defeated by two people he’d once coveted as apprentices must have bothered Taron, on some level – after all, he’d promised them power, and they’d refused his offer. Is it possible that Baylan will be killed by his apprentice, too?

Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka and Taron Malicos from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

InAhsokaseason 1’s final episodes,Baylan Skoll essentially left Shin Hatito fend for herself on an abandoned planet with no means of getting home. Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Nightsisters – along with the missing Jedi Ezra Bridger – managed to escape back toStar Wars’primary galaxy, and now Shin is stuck on Peridea without any allies as her Master heads off to places unknown, searching for something to do with the power of the Mortis gods.

Will they convince her to join them and turn against her Master, especially if he unleashes a dark power upon an unsuspecting galaxy? If Shin does join Ahsoka and Sabine inAhsokaseason 2, and they take downBaylan Skolltogether, the parallels to Taron Malicos’ fate inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwill be all the more obvious.
