A new report has stated thatApple TV+is losing more than $1 billion a year on streaming. While Apple has been around as a company for decades, it launched its streaming service, Apple TV+, on June 30, 2025. Since then, they have produced many acclaimed TV series, includingFor All Mankind,Slow Horses,Bad Sisters, andTed Lasso. One of their most popular shows is the sci-fi workplace dramaSeverance, which features performances by Adam Scott, John Turturro, and Patricia Arquette. TheSeveranceseason 2 finaledrops on the platform tomorrow, March 21.

However, things are not looking good for the streamer as per a recentDeadlinereport. According to the source,Apple TV+ is losing an estimated $1 billion a year on streaming. This loss comes from the tech company spending around $5 billion annually on streaming, though it attempted to cut that total down by around $500 million last year.

From comedies including Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest to dramas including Severance, there are many great TV shows available to binge-watch on Apple TV+.

Still, the report seemsto support a pessimistic statement about the streamer made by Ted Sarandos, the CEO of competitor Netflix. Sarandos was recently asked to speak about his fellow streamers. Speaking on Apple, he said, “I don’t understand it beyond a marketing play, but they’re really smart people. Maybe they see something we don’t.” While the Netflix CEO gives some credit for their creativity, the recent report seems to suggest there is some validity in not believing in Apple TV+, given the service is losing its company money.

Our Take On The Apple TV+ Losses

I’m A Little Scared For Severance

It is important to note that theApple TV+update does not mean that the streamer is shutting down. In fact, the producer still has several major series with confirmed returns, includingShrinkingseason 3,The Buccaneersseason 2, and the recently confirmedTed Lassoseason 4. However, the news does make me more scared of shows likeSeverance, which does not have a season 3 officially confirmed. Hopefully, the streamer’s losses will just amount to fund reallocation rather than major series cancellation.
