Below Deck MediterraneanstarCaptain Sandy Yawn is an icon, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t time for her to gracefully exit the popular nautical franchise. Yes, Sandy has some appeal, but her issues are extreme, and watching her do her job is often incredibly frustrating. Also, her feuds with other people make her seem like a troublemaker, whether that’s really true or not.
No one’s saying that Captain Sandy isn’t good at what she does - it’s just that her signature management style is almost guaranteed to irritate her underlings. Nonetheless, Captain Sandy reigns in what is still, in many ways, a man’s world. By controlling huge “white boats,” Sandy shows the world that women can do it too… and do it well.

In that sense, she’s broken the glass ceiling. It’s not easy to operate one of these large vessels. In fact, it requires a great deal of education and expertise. Just watcheven the most seasoned captain gingerly “parking” a yacht to see how hard it is. Yes, even the best captains must be really careful. That being said, Sandy’s gone too far with her micromanaging and feuding. She needs to let people be now and then.
Captain Sandy’s Recent “Cabin Raid” Was Over The Top
She Caught Them Unaware
Sandyused her invasive management style to great comedic effectin theBravoat YouTube clip shown above, performing an annoying surprise inspection. However, a yacht isn’t a military base. That means that she doesn’t have to do the wholeFull Metal Jacketdrill sergeant schtick to put the fear of God into her hapless crew. Sure, it’s easy enough to chuckle when she’s rating someone a “0,” but really, this is just a tiny piece of the mosaic that is Sandy’s micromanagement style.
Captain Sandy Wouldn’t Let Hannah Ferrier Have A Good Time
Who Cares About Maritime Law? (Just Kidding)
Hannah was a great diva who made the show watchable, so what did Captain Sandy do? She killed the golden goose, taking away the most charismatic Chief Stew ever. EvenKate Chastain, with her icy disdain and unpredictability, cannot compete with the epic grandeur of Ms. Ferrier. Hannah loves herself, and she will do what she wants, unless it comes to her preferred relaxation techniques.
Captain Sandy nailed her to the wall for bringing a vape pen and medication onboard without disclosing the items.
Sure, it’s against Maritime Law and that’s super serious, but this is reality TV.Viewers want to see rule breakers and rebels. They do not want to watch “good” people doing their jobs well.By firing the queen of the franchise, Captain Sandy paved the way for so much boring TV. What on earth was she thinking?
This was the time for a gentle slap on the wrist, or a bit of a “talking to.” It wasn’t the time to strip this dazzling blonde of her powers.
After Hannah left, someBelow Deck Mediterraneanviewers probably bailed out too. It’s just not the same without her flirting with charter guests, looking down on others, andshowing off her swan-like grace on a floating party palace. Who doesn’t miss the delightful arrogance of Hannah? Her steely confidence was inspiring, especially when compared to some truly wimpy franchise stars, includingBelow Deck Med’s Chef Ben Robinson, whose “silver spoon” antics never had such a funny edge.
Captain Sandy Must Change Or Go
Her Tactics Are Out Of Date
Captain Sandyneeds to chill out. Above, on Instagram, she’s droning on about what’s permitted at sea - what a killjoy (again, I’m just joking around)! Sandy, you must train them and let them do their jobs. If they’re awful, interfere. If they’re trying and talented, praise them, orjust let them do their own thing. By micromanaging up a storm, and firing the fiery beauty that isBelow Deck Mediterranean’s Hannah Ferrier, Captain Sandy deserves cancelation.
