The Netflix historical romance TV show, based onJulia Quinn’sBridgertonbook series, follows the love lives of the Bridgerton family.Each season depicts one of the siblings' love stories,with season 1 revolving around Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, season 2 focusing on Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, and season 3 centering around Colin and Penelope.

However, while season 4 should put most of its focus on Benedict and Sophie Baek’s romance, it should also feature some of the show’s past couples (and not only for an episode or two). Given how Colin and Penelope’s story ended during the season 3 finale, the series has the perfect opportunity to properly show a main couple as parents.

Daphne gave birth to her and Simon’s son, August, inBridgertonseason 1, but the show never gave them the space to be parents. Season 1 was mostly focused on Daphne and Simon’s romance, rightfully so, and sinceRegé-Jean Page leftBridgertonafter season 1, the series couldn’t exactly give the couple a prominent storyline featuring them as parents.Daphne sporadically appeared in season 2 with her son,but the writers didn’t give much attention to her newfound role as a mother.
Bridgerton Will Now Always Need Kate Sharma
Bridgerton season 2 introduced Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma, Anthony Bridgerton’s love interest, and the show should never get rid of her.
Meanwhile, Kate didn’t get pregnant untilthe end ofBridgertonseason 3, meaning Kate and Anthony’s baby has yet to arrive in this fictional world. As a result,Bridgertonhasn’t had the opportunity to explore a parenting storywith any of its couples, despite it being an important part of their character arcs. That could all change inBridgertonseason 4, though.
Colin & Penelope Can Finally Do A Bridgerton Parenting Story
As many will recall,Colin and Penelope had a son during theBridgertonseason 3finale. His name is unknown, and the couple had a daughter first in Julia Quinn’s book series, so, we haven’t learned his name yet. Nevertheless, Colin and Penelope are expected to still be around in season 4 and presumably have bigger roles than Daphne had in season 2 and Anthony and Kate did in season 3. Penelope is Lady Whistledown, after all. So,theBridgertonwriters should take advantage of Colin and Penelope’s returnto incorporate a parenting storyline into the series.

Bridgertoncouldn’t introduce a prominent parenting plot in seasons 2 or 3due to actor exits (for Daphne and Simon’s story) and the lack of a baby (forAnthony and Kate’s story). Colin and Penelope can change the game, though, as the circumstances are perfect for them to fully embrace parenthood in season 4. Plus, it would be rather unbelievable if Colin and Penelope’s son was nowhere to be seen inBridgertonseason 4.

Colin and Penelope aren’t the only ones who are going to be new parents inBridgertonseason 4 —Anthony and Kate will have a child by then, too.However, I have less faith that the Netflix historical romance series will shine a light on Anthony and Kate’s parenthood journey given their frustratingly small roles in season 3. They also sailed to India towards the end of the season, suggesting their presence will be small yet again in season 4.
On the bright side, Anthony and Kate’s romance is a fan favorite, and the writers would be wise to give them more screen time.
