Darkseid has undergone a massive change which fundamentally alters the way the character functions within the DC Universe. But as a result of this change, Darkseid now has a brand-new weakness which could spell his ultimate downfall.

Over the course of his journey, he encounters the Spectre and bonds with him using the Miracle Machine, a device which turns wishes and thoughts into reality, before facing off against the Justice League.
Ultimately,Darkseid allows Superman to sever his connection with the Spectre and kill him, before reconstructing himself as the all-powerful god of the Alpha World, the universe where the Absolute Universe is set.

In his death and subsequent rebirth,Darkseid transforms into an omnipotent god, capable of influencing the timeline of the Alpha World and creating a world diametrically opposed to Prime Earth. In Darkseid’s world, evil is impossibly strong, while hope can barely survive. The heroes of this new Earth have their advantages ripped away from them and their disadvantages are amplified, becauseDarkseid is constructing a timeline in his own image. In doing so, Darkseid is the most god-like he has ever been.

Worse yet is the revelation thatDarkseid’s powers are still growing. Darkseid intends on lying in wait within this universe, building up his power until he’s capable of becoming his truest self. Once he does, Darkseid will be capable of destroying entire universes single-handedly, making him stronger than he’s ever been before. And as evidenced by the way Darkseid’s presence is altering the Absolute Universe, he can possibly manipulate reality to his liking, making sure that this new world is just like him.
Most importantly,Darkseid’s new role also symbolizeshis weariness with the role he plays within the DC Universe. While battling the heroes, Darkseid recounts each fight he has had and sees that he is always destined to play the role the universe has ordained for him.“But I am finished with always,”Darkseid proclaims in his narration, stepping beyond his station and defying the role that he has always played within the DC Universe. This new role represents him crafting a new, villainous legacy for himself, one where he isn’t beholden to the natural order of the DC Universe.

During his battle with Superman and the Justice League,Darkseid and the Spectreengage in an internal dialogue. Here, the Spectre explains thatDarkseid’s purpose in the universe is to be an oppositional force to Superman; the despair to his hope. But because Darkseid is an essential function of the multiverse, he has no double and instead has his essence dispersed across each world in the multiverse. Darkseid was functionally immortal and undefeatable as he was - because the universe needs a being like Darkseid to exist, even if he will always lose.

ButDarkseid breaking the natural order of his status changes everythingfor him. His newfound powers and role within the Absolute Universe elevate him above his previous station. He has now created a reality where his essence will rule supreme, with hopes of overtaking other realities, too. But by defying the natural order of the DC Universe, Darkseid has lost the protection it granted him. Defeat is a very real possibility for Darkseid now in a way that he previously never had to worry about.

Given this information, I think that Darkseid’s new power will be his greatest downfall. While he is stronger now than he ever has been before,he lacks the protection that previously assured him that defeat would be nothing more than a minor setbackin the grand scheme of things. Now, it’s finally possible for the heroes of the DC Universe to beat him. Even taking into account how his new level of power makes him more dangerous, I still feel that the power he has, coupled with his preexisting hubris, will be the ultimate cause of his defeat.

Every time Darkseid tries to enact one of his sinister plans, it’s always the Justice League that stops him, but now Darkseid has his own dark Legion.
Darkseid’s new level of power makes him incredibly dangerous - more than he’s ever been before. But in doing so, he sacrifices one of his greatest defenses, effectively opening himself up for failure. No matter how powerful Darkseid will be in his newest form, the fact now remains that he has severed his connection to the natural order of the DC Universe and rid himself of any protection it granted him. The tides will turn in the DC Universe, andDarkseid’sfate once the smoke clears will surely change him as much as his new powers have.
