Disney Lorcanahas released some new details regarding the upcomingReign of Jafarset, which is scheduled to be released later this year.Reign of Jafarwill be the secondLorcanaset that revolves around a specific Disney villain, the previous beingUrsula’s Returnfrom May 2024. Though it is too early inLorcana’s lifespan to tell, this indicates that a villain set could be expected once a year. Of course, a lot can change when it comes to TCG releases. For example,Magic: The Gatheringrecently restructured its old release model to fitmoreUniverses Beyondsets.

As for whatReign of Jafaritself has in store, details are a little scarce at the moment. While one card was previewed back at D23 in 2024, it will likely be a little while before more are shown.Lorcana’s previews typically come much closer to a set’s release. The upcomingArchazia’s Islandset, for instance, only recently revealed the characters featured in its starter decks, and still only one card from the set has been spoiled. That said, previous releases can help make some predictions about what’s to come.

When Reign Of Jafar Releases In 2025

August 18, 2025

Reign of Jafarwill be released on June 03, 2025, which sticks withLorcana’s schedule of spacing out its sets by about three months, give or take a few weeks. If this pattern continues, that means a thirdLorcanaset can be expected around late August or early September. This fits with the recent announcement ofLorcana’s upcomingFabledsetwhich is scheduled for Q3 2025. If 2024 was any indication, that likely means that a fourthLorcanaset will come out sometime around November 2025, though nothing has been officially announced yet.

Disney Lorcana Is On A Roll, But There’s One Lesson From Pokémon TCG It Needs To Learn For 2025

Disney Lorcana is an incredible trading card game, but it has one important lesson to learn from the Pokémon TCG if it wants to become number one.

Reign of Jafarreleasing in June may be bad news for fans of multiple TCGs, or at least for their wallets. Aside fromLorcana,Magic: The Gatheringwill be releasing itsFinal Fantasycrossover set, and a newPokémonset is also coming in June. Smaller, but still notable, card games likeOne PieceandFlesh and Bloodalso have sets slated for a June release. While this isn’t a big deal for those who just playLorcana, it does meanReign of Jafarwill have some competition when trying to court anyone who plays multiple card games.

When Pre-Release For Reign Of Jafar Begins

June 10, 2025

As is typical for aDisney Lorcanaset,Reign of Jafarwill be coming early to local game stores, Disney Stores, and Disney Parks. These pre-release events begin June 03, 2025, which is a bit smaller of a pre-release window thanArchazia’s Islandis getting. The March set is being released two full weeks early at these locations, whereasReign of Jafaris only a week ahead of schedule. It isn’t clear exactly howLorcana’spre-release scheduling is planned out, as it tends to fluctuate from set to set. Last November’sAzurite Sea, for example, had a 10-day early release.

As far as what to expect from aReign of Jafarpre-release event, that will usually vary by location. Some stores simply begin selling the product early, while others have organized play events featuring the new set. These events are typically Sealed events, where players are given six booster packs of the new set and build a deck out of them to compete with. Other stores opt to give players starter decks to play with, and sometimes a pack or two to supplement them.

Regardless of the exact format,pre-release events are typically designed so that all players are given the same tools to use going into it. This makes pre-release events a more even playing field than ones that use constructed decks. These events are also usually pretty casual, so they can be a good place for onboarding new players, or for anyone who has only playedLorcanawith their friends to branch out and try playing with their local community.

Confirmed Cards & Set Details For Reign Of Jafar

Only One Card Has Been Previewed For This Upcoming Set

The recently released set details forReign of Jafardon’t bode well for the pet-inhabited Archazia’s Island, which will be featured in March’s set of the same name. The official set details read:

“His Crown, His Realm.Jafar has taken over Archazia’s Island, corrupting the beautiful haven into his menacing fortress. His reign may just be the greatest threat that Lorcana has faced!”

Jinx from Arcane surrounded by Pikachu and Mickey Mouse

Based on this, it seems likely that the set will feature some locationsintroduced inArchazia’s Islandand show how they have been warped under Jafar’s reign. There will likely be some of the same characters from that set - like Bolt or Lady and the Tramp - shown fighting back against Jafar’s takeover of their island.

As of now, only one card from the set has been spoiled: Iago, Out of Reach. This Iago card has a pretty nice effect, Self-Preservation, which stops it from being challenged so long as its controller has another exerted character. This allows Iago to quest for two lore without worrying about being challenged. Given Iago’s demeanor on the card and its taunting flavor text, it seems safe to assume the parrot’s redemption arc fromThe Return of Jafardidn’t take place in whatever universe this Glimmer is from.

Pokémon TCG & Disney Lorcana Watch Out: League Of Legends' New TCG Looks Like It Could Be Real Competition

Riot Games recently announced their new LoL TCG Project K, but can it hope to compete against giants like Pokémon and Disney’s Lorcana?

Althougha product lineup forReign of Jafarhas not been revealed yet, some products seem like a sure thing based on previous sets. Aside from booster packs, there will likely also be two new deck boxes with a matching set of sleeves. These rarely feature art from the set they’re released alongside, usually using artwork from the previous one or two sets. This means someArchazia’s Islandcards could be featured here. The same goes for possible playmats, which usually feature different art from the deck boxes and sleeves.

Lorcanasets also typically include an Illumineer’s Trove, a themed storage box that includes eight boosters, and some other game accessories like dice and a Lore counter. At least two new starter decks also seem like a safe bet forReign of Jafar. While the first set included more, that was likely just to give players a wider variety as the game was getting off the ground.

One more productReign of Jafarmight include is a new Illumineer’s Quest spin-off. This is a cooperativeLorcanagame that includes two unique decks and a self-playing boss deck featuring a Disney villain. The previous Illumineer’s Quest,Deep Trouble, was released alongsideUrsula’s Return. If the product is going to make a comeback, it would make sense to do it alongside another villain-centricLorcanaset. An Illumineer’s Quest starring Jafar would make sense with this set.
