Dragon Ball Daimais the most recent and incredible entry in the beloved adventure created by Akira Toriyama. The exciting adventure of Goku as he discovers the secrets of the Demon Realm has everything it needs to become a fan-favorite series. Not only did its story managed to capture the child-like excitement of the original adventure, but it also contains many new themes that help it stand out.
Despite how amazing this new show is,there is little chance that it will ever reach the same levels of hype of its predecessor,Dragon Ball Super. AsDaimacontinues its journey, it has become clear that its unique approach focuses on a different appeal of theDragon Ballstory, one that was sidelined since the days ofZ. This is perhaps most clear when looking back at the impressive reactions thatDragon Ball Superprovoked withthe Tournament of Power finale, showcased when fans all over the world watched that episode in live events.

Dragon Ball Super’s Hype Was Felt All Over the World
Government-Sponsored Viewings of the Series' Finale Were Unprecedented
In 2015, after nearly two decades of waiting, theDragon Ballfranchise resurfaced with a new anime series that would quickly become an iconic part of history,Dragon Ball Super. The show reunited fans with all their favorite characters, like Goku or Vegeta, while also introducing new allies, enemies, and themes that had never been seen before. Despite its rocky start, as the animation during the beginning was by far not the greatest, this new entry soon became one of the franchise’s most popular, particularly in the Latin America region. The Tournament of Power saga was especially popular because it went back to the formula that madeDragon Ball Zan explosive success.
When the final battle against Jiren was announced, people all around the world gathered in public places like bars, restaurants, and even squaresto witness the battle. Some Mexican states went as far as to come to an agreement with Toei Animation and Crunchyroll to obtain the rights to stream the final episodes of this epic battle for massive audiences. The impact this show had on the world at large was unlike anything that had ever been seen before. Online, fans crashed every site in which the battle was being streamed, legal and illegal wishing to see Goku’s Ultra Instinct and the final battle against Jiren.
Toei Animation went all out for this momentous event, with the animation, choreography, colors, and music creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience that fans will never forget. Once Jiren was defeated and thrown off of the platform, fans of the franchise, gathered all over the world, jumped from their seats in celebration,as if their universe was truly saved from annihilation. This was what made the originalDragon Ballthe most popular anime ever: emotional battles with high stakes against mighty foes, and the heroes overcoming their limits to beat them.
Super Has Many Advantages Over Daima
Daima Focuses on Different Elements of the Franchise
Daimais by no means a bad series, but it is unlikely that its story or ending will have an impact as massive as the Tournament of Power’s. It simply focuses on another aspect of the franchise, an older one, which is the sense of adventure and wonder that populate the earliest appearances of Goku. Fans are appreciating it, of course, but unless the series begins introducing stronger enemies and higher stakes, it’s unlikely it will gather the same hype asSuperdid in its final stages.
Dragon Ball Superalso came at a time in which interest in the franchise was beginning to resurface. Before its official release, two new movies that would inspire the first few arcs of this new anime were released:Battle of the GodsandResurrection F. These films helped bring back old fans, as well as introduce new ones to the world of the series. The new topics introduced kept fans engaged, as the ideas felt novel and exciting. By introducing new deities, transformations for the heroes, and the idea of a multiverse,Supercreated a perfect formula for success.
Daimahas none of these advantages, despite the fact that its launch was surrounded by impressive hype. However, thanks toSuper, fans are now used to the franchise being around, and it’s not comparable to the almost twenty years that followed the end of the original series. Adding to this,Daimais noticeably less serious and tense than its predecessor, with the story focusing majorly on Kakarot’s adventure and trying torecapture the same charm of the originalDragon Ball.
Dragon Ball Daima Is Still a Great Series
Both Series Have Their Merits and Are Worth Watching
This does not mean that the series is bad or boring, as it has proven to be an extremely entertaining show, with a unique plot that fans of the franchise will surely love. Nonetheless, its less impressive revelations and lack of original transformations, for the moment, do hinder its success. While the series should undoubtedly be celebrated and supported, as it has done an incredible job delivering a new vision of Toriyama’s universe, if it keeps its course, there is little chance that it will generate the same amount of hype in the anime community at large.
Although it might not be as popular or beloved as its predecessor,Dragon Ball Daimais a series that more than deserves the recognition it has garnered. Goku’s journey through the Demon Realm is one filled with humor and exhilarating moments, even if it will lack the epic and awe-inspiring battles ofDragon Ball Super. These series have their own strengths and weaknesses but are all part of one of the most beloved and iconic anime franchises of all time.
