Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #7.Dragon Ball Daimahas introduced a wide assortment of new villains, most notable among them being the Tamagamis, the guardians of the Demon Realm Dragon Balls. The Tamagamis are said to be so powerful that no one has ever been able to use the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, and while that’s still a vague statement on their power, it perfectly builds them up as dangerous threats, nonetheless.

The Tamagamis were always going to be powerful villains, andDragon Ball Daimaepisode #7 reveals just how powerful they will be. Episode #7 saw Goku challenge one of the Tamagamis to a fight for aDemon Realm Dragon Ball, and while the fight hasn’t started yet,Dragon Ball Daimaepisode #7 made a big statement about how powerful the Tamagamis are supposed to be. There’s still a bit of a gray area regarding their power, but regardless, this is stillDaima’s best opportunity to show off how powerful its cast is meant to be on both sides.

Dabura in a flashback

Dragon Ball Daima’s Tamagamis Are Officially Some Of Dragon Ball’s Strongest Fighters

While the fight with Tamagami Number Three hasn’t formally begun, as Goku was preparing for the fight, Panzy added to the pre-established lore of no one ever defeating the Tamagamis by saying that not even Dabura could defeat them. Dabura didn’t get to do much fighting, but he was stated to be on par with Cell, so if even he couldn’t defeat the Tamagamis, thenDragon Ball Daima’s are some of the strongest characters forDragon Ball’s current timelineby virtue of being stronger than Dabura.

The Tamagamis being stronger than Dabura also further explains why it’s such a big deal that Goku defeated Majin Buu. Even with Dabura being as powerful as he was, he was easily defeated by Majin Buu, so if Goku defeated Majin Buu, then that meansGoku, as far as the citizens of the Demon Realm know, is the only person who could compete with the Tamagamis and bring an end to Gomah’s tyranny. That idea further sells the conflict between Goku and Gomah, and it will be interesting to see exactly how it plays out.

Why Dragon Ball Daima’s Tamagamis Might Not Be As Strong As They Seem

Are The Tamagamis Really That Big A Threat?

The Tamagamis have been built up as powerful fighters inDragon Ball Daima, but it might be more complicated than that. For starters, while Goku did say that Dabura was as strong as Cell, Dabura was being controlled by Babidi when Goku saw him, so his power was likely enhanced by Babidi’s magic, just like Vegeta’s. Dabura’s original power level was likely far lower than what was shown in the Majin Buu saga, and as such, the Tamagamis might not be as powerful asDragon Ball Daimasuggests because it’s unclear what Dabura’s power level before meeting Babidi was.

Another point to consider is how very little is still known about the Tamagamis’ abilities. The Tamagamis are sure to have great physical strength, but as creatures of the Demon Realm, they likely possess magical abilities, as well, and with how varied magic inDragon Ballis presented as being, the seeming invincibility of the Tamagamis might come less from their raw power and more from a magical ability they possess. That would play into the general way demons have been depicted, but it would still make their overall power far more questionable, regardless.

More important, of course, is the general tone ofDragon Ball Daima.Daimapresents itself as a more lighthearted story that harkens back to the originalDragon Ballera, so while it does take itself seriously, most of the time, the focus is more on gags and lighthearted adventure than telling a serious, action-packed narrative. The relatively lighthearted tone ofDragon Ball Daimamakes it likely that the Tamagamis won’t be treated as serious threats, despite being stronger than Dabura, and if that’s the case, then it would be hard to rank them highly amongDragon Ball’s strongest fighters.

Dragon Ball Daima Finally Gives Goku His First True Challenge

Regardless of how strong the Tamagamis may or may not be, the upcoming fight with Tamagami Number Three is still important for Goku’s character. Even with Goku losing power due to becoming a child, he’s won every one of his fights with relative ease;Glorio pushed Goku to use Super Saiyan, but their fight ended immediately after, so it still wasn’t much of a fight. The Tamagamis are enemies everyone in the Demon Realm is afraid to challenge, however, soGoku’s fight with Tamagami Number Three will be the first time anyone inDragon Ball Daimawill challenge his power.

With Goku finally getting a real challenge, that can also lend itself to some much-needed powerscaling.Daimahas been vague about how strong Goku currently is beyond just being weaker, but with the Tamagamis at least being comparable to Dabura’s power, thenGoku’s fight with Tamagami Number Three can finally confirm how strong Goku is inDragon Ball Daimabased on how well the fight goes for him. The possible threat level of the Tamagamis sets up the biggest challenge ofDragon Ball Daimato date, and with any luck, the series will more than deliver on that.
