Not every enemy inDragon Ballis as deadly and dangerous as Frieza or Cell. In fact, several of them are absolute goofballs, who exist mostly for a laugh rather than to pose a threat to Goku and his friends. One such villain is Guldo, a member of the Ginyu Force who was laughably out of shape, but who possessed a power that could’ve been incredibly lethal in the right hands, asDragon Ball Superproved.

Guldo wasa member of the Ginyu Forcewhose short and pudgy appearance automatically made him look like no threat at all, especially compared to some of his more dangerous (but equally goofy) compatriots like Recoome. Guldo was weak and cowardly, making it seem a mystery as to why he was even included in the Ginyu Force to begin with. However, Guldo had a special ability which should’ve given him a tremendous edge in battle: the ability to stop time for as long as he could hold his breath.

Guldo strikes his Ginyu Force pose.

Unfortunately for Guldo, he was in no shape to use this ability to its fullest extent.

Guldo’s Time Freeze Ability Was Absolutely Wasted

Guldo Couldn’t Use His Time Freeze Properly

Guldo is among the first of the Ginyu Force to fight, put up againstGohan and Krillinwhile Recoome battles Vegeta. Guldo does initially use his Time Freeze ability to steal a Dragon Ball from them, but after that has a hard time putting the ability to use.Gohan and Krillin move so fast that whenever Guldo takes a breath, they’re within inches of him, forcing him to use the period while time has stopped to retreat to a safer distance, something which would become harder each time, as his out-of-shape body grows tired from running very quickly.

Becoming short of breath, Guldo can’t hold the Time Freeze for as long, allowing Gohan and Krillin to catch up every time. Guldo switches up to another ability he has, Mind Freeze, causing Gohan and Krillin to become unable to move. With his opponents now at his mercy, Guldo attempts to kill them by using his psychic powers to lift up a log, but is suddenly and brutally killed by Vegeta, who decapitates Guldo with a single attack.

Guldo struggles to hold his breath to stop time.

Dragon Ball Has Finally Revealed Frieza’s Secret History

V-Jump unveiled the history of Frieza and his family of galactic conquerors, expanding on the most famous villain in the Dragon Ball franchise.

While Guldo was legitimately dangerous, the whole battle comes off like a joke, especially since Guldo deals absolutely no lasting damage to either Gohan or Krillin. Guldo isthe first of the Ginyu Force to fallin battle as well, and rather rapidly compared to the others at that. It wouldn’t be until the introduction of Hit inDragon Ball Superthat fans would see how deadly a Time Freeze ability could be.

Hit is The Deadly Threat Guldo Could’ve Been (If He Trained)

Hit’s Mastery of the Time Skip Made It a Time Freeze

Hit is initially introduced with the Time Skip ability, allowing him skip over 1/10th of a second of time, which often provides him with enough of a surprise to get the drop on his opponents, killing them in a single blow.As Hit developed his Time Skip in theDragon Ball Superanime, it eventually became a Time Freeze ability similar to Guldo’s, although Hit didn’t need to hold his breath in order to pull it off. Hit shows the true power of a Time Freeze ability throughoutSuper, particularly in the tournament between Universes 6 and 7.

Hit uses the Time Freeze to pause Goku, even while he’s in Super Saiyan Blue and using the Kaio-ken technique. Hit is far more effective than Guldo ever was, using the frozen time to move freely and avoid or land attacks while his opponent remains helplessly stuck in place. Hit’s related Time Prison skill, which only freezes the opponent in time rather than all time, was so powerful that the only one able to overcome it was Jiren, signaling to Hit the true level of power that Jiren was in possession of. Using this technique does wear Hit out, so it, like Guldo’s technique, can only be used so often.

Hit’s effectiveness in battleagainst even foes like Jiren and Super Saiyan Blue Goku shows just how dangerous Guldo could’ve been if he took his training seriously. The Ginyu Force would’ve become one of the deadliest organizations in the galaxy with Guldo as a member had he focused on honing his ability the way Hit did. Guldo having to hold his breath to stop time was actually something of an advantage, as he could’ve potentially frozen time for a full minute or more. Gohan and Krillin should be glad thatDragon Ball’s Guldo turned out to be such a pushover.

Dragon Ball

From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
