What Dune: Prophecy’s Release Date Means For The Show

When Will The Finale Air On Max?

Dune: Prophecyonly consists of six episodes. With episodes set to air every Sunday starting November 17,audiences can seemingly expect the show to conclude on Sunday, December 22. It’s possible that the shorter season is due to budget constraints. The trailer teases, after all, that there will be plenty of VFX-heavy sequences, and building all the show’s unique locations also wouldn’t be cheap.

Dune: Prophecy’s Timeline Can Set Up A Better Post-Dune 3 Future Than The Books

As a prequel set centuries before the events of Paul’s story, Dune: Prophecy can properly set up a satisfying ending to the core eight-book Dune Saga.

The release date for this new installment in theDuneuniverseputs the show’s premiere one week afterThe Penguin’s season 1 finale, which is expected to release on November 10.The Penguinwas itself taking the Sunday-night place ofHouse of the Dragon, which concluded its season 2 run on August 4. By spacing its shows out this way,Max and HBO essentially get to dominate the Sunday night viewing space with big-budget, high-profile showsfor a large chunk of the year.

Our Take On Dune: Prophecy’s Trailer & Release Date

How Will The Show Compare To Villeneuve’s Movies?

Reviews forDune: Part Twowere glowing, and the upcoming HBO series may have a difficult time matching the scale and acclaim of Denis Villeneuve’s two films. The trailer, however, suggests that the show will be featuring some truly epic visuals, including a sandworm seemingly swallowing an entire settlement. These impressive visuals will accompany a story that looks to feature more R-rated sex and violence, which could be an interesting departure from Villeneuve’s movies.

With only a six-episode season,Dune: Prophecywill hopefully be devoid of any “filler” episodes, though, if the show is good, it may be disappointing to have to say farewell to the franchise once again in December. Thankfully, though, audiences now don’t have long to wait before returning to Arrakis and a host of new locations in Herbert’s sci-fi universe.
