Red Oneis Hollywood’s latest attempt to cash in on the holiday season, taking classic Christmas stories and characters, remixing them to hopefully find an audience in the modern movie landscape. The film tells the story ofDwayne Johnson’s Callum Drift, the head of North Pole Security, who teams up with Chris Evan’s Jack O’Malley, a hacker, to recover a kidnapped Santa Claus. WhileRed One’s critical reviews are quite poor, audience scores have been more solid – perhaps a consequence of the way the movie puts a playful spin on recognizable Christmas characters.
Red One, being a film revolving around Santa Claus, is very closely connected with all things Christmas, and one of those things isa reference to one of the holiday’s most iconic characters, Frosty the Snowman. WhileRed One’s castis undoubtedly its biggest draw for audiences, these smaller references to the holiday season are going to be the things that people look at to determine whether this is a film that will be looked at as a true celebration of the holiday in the long run.

One Of Red One’s Evil Snowmen Looks To Be A Frosty Stand-In
He Seems To Be Less Of A Jolly, Happy Soul Nowadays
In one of the film’s action scenes, Callum and Jack have to fight off a trio of evil snowmen, sent byRed One’s main vilain Gryla, that show up while the two are in Aruba, and when the snowmen appear, one of them is wearing a bowler hat. While this immediately brings to mind the hat that has always been an integral part of Frosty’s iconic appearance, his identity is never confirmed,he simply shows up as a generic villain for the heroes to fight. However, the hat alone is enough to suggest that this speculation seems very plausible.
Frosty’s Villain Turn In Red One Is Short Lived & That’s Disappointing
There’s No Time To Enjoy The Moment
The scene in which Frosty shows up is short at best, having also been shown off in the trailers, and the trio of snowmen don’t pose much of a threat to the central duo. They have a bit of a fight, and then the snowmen are destroyed and never seen again.Red Onefeatures a lot of real-life myths and monstersfrom multiple different cultures, and whilereferring to Frosty the Snowman as a western myth might be a bit of a stretch, the character is still a big part of the cultural lexicon.
Red One Is A Worse Version Of A Classic Disney Christmas Movie
Red One seems to be giving an all-new look at the world of Christmas, but this Disney Christmas classic already beat The Rock to the punch.
While stuffing a movie with references for the sake of it tends to be a poor reflection on the quality of the film,Red Oneis a situation where a few more allusions to other Christmas myths and stories would be a good thing. Frosty as an evil henchman is a fun addition to the film, but the concept is given no time to be explored, or even quickly confirmed.Red One’s Frosty the Snowman could have been a great inclusion, but unfortunately, it is just another one of the film’s disappointing aspects.
