Star Warshas released a number of TV shows in recent years, both animated and live-action, but which live-action show had the most hype?Star Wars’movies and TV showshave had an interesting trajectory since the Skywalker Saga came to an end withStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerin December 2019. In fact,The Rise of Skywalkerwas the most recentStar Warsmovie, and the next,The Mandalorian & Grogu, won’t be released until 2026.
During this seven-year interim, the franchise has been focused on TV shows, and many ofStar Wars’best TV showshave been released in the last five years. TheStar Warsfanbase is notoriously unpredictable, though, and the shows that are considered the ‘best’ aren’t necessarily going to be those that garner the most interest. With the exception ofStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, which is still releasing episodes, here are the rankings for all live-actionStar Warsshows released in the last five years, ranked according to hype, based on their Google Trends scores.

1The Mandalorian Season 1
Google Trends Score: 100
Somewhat unsurprisingly,The Mandalorianseason 1 is theStar Warsshow with the highest Google Trends scorein the last five years, topping the charts with a score of 100.The Mandalorianis clearly an incredibly successful show, given it will be the firstStar Warsshow to make the jump to the big screen and is the next to be released ofStar Wars’upcoming movies, after a years-long hiatus. Even before the show became a fan favorite, though, it was receiving plenty of attention.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect ofThe Mandalorianwas its distinction from all that had come before inStar Wars. Many ofStar Wars’earlier shows, such asStar Wars: The Clone Wars, were plenty innovative and popular, but they had pulled from many of the same characters and maintained a focus on the Jedi. The Mandalorianwas truly unique, though, and it was billed as a bounty hunter show—something audiences had long hoped to see in the franchise.
This was only made all the better when Grogu, then called The Child in the show and Baby Yoda in the fanbase, captured the hearts of most viewers. Even with all the shows that have been released sinceThe Mandaloriandebuted in November 2019, it makes sense that this show remains on top.AsStar Wars’first live-action TV show,The Mandalorianholds a very special place in the franchise.
10 Adorable Star Wars Characters Who Give Baby Yoda Competition
‘Baby Yoda’ may still be considered one of the cutest Star Wars characters—if not the cutest—but these 10 characters come fairly close.
2The Mandalorian Season 2
Google Trends Score: 93
Following the success ofThe Mandalorianseason 1,The Mandalorianseason 2 comes in second in terms of Google Trends score. The show did experience a small dip, dropping from a score of 100 to a score of 93 between seasons 1 and 2. LikeThe Mandalorian’sinitial success, this shift makes sense.
The Mandalorianseason 2 still wins out over every otherStar WarsTV show released in the last 5 years with its Google Trends score, confirming its slot as the most popularStar Warsproject in recent years. As a sequel, it also makes sense that the show’s second season wouldn’t perform quite as well as its predecessor. Given the much lower score of certain otherStar Warsshows, even with this slight drop, this Google Trends score forThe Mandalorianseason 2 remains impressive.
3Obi-Wan Kenobi
Google Trends Score: 69
The next highestStar WarsTV show Google Trends score is that ofObi-Wan Kenobi, which was released in May 2022. Although the show comes in third overall, there was a significant drop in score betweenThe Mandalorianseason 1 and 2 andObi-Wan Kenobi. WhereasThe Mandalorianseason 1 had a score of 100 and season 2 earned a 93,Obi-Wan Kenobi’sGoogle Trends score is only 69.
The popularity of the show compared to other recentStar Warsshows may be due in part to the love manyStar Warsaudiences have for the prequel trilogy era and the prominent actors in the prequels, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen chief among them.Obi-Wan Kenobisaw the return of both McGregor and Christensen, including a brand-new on-screen reunion between Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi, furthering the excitement about the show. However, the dip in score reinforces a waning interest inStar Warsshows of late.
4Ahsoka
Google Trends Score: 43
The Google Trends score forAhsokais fourth highest, at 43. Although this meansAhsokaoutperformed a number of otherStar Warsshows by this metric, it also represents a massive difference in the level of interest there was forThe MandalorianversusAhsoka. LikeObi-Wan Kenobi,Ahsoka’sGoogle Trends score likely benefited from the connection the show has to previousStar Warsprojects—inAhsoka’scase,The Clone WarsandStar Wars Rebels.
LikeObi-Wan Kenobi,Ahsoka’sGoogle Trends score likely benefited from the connection the show has to previousStar Warsprojects.
Ahsokawas the live-action debut of multipleRebelscharacters, including Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren, which drew in plenty of interest. It was also a continuation of Ahsoka Tano’s story, and she is largely considered one ofStar Wars’best characters. Despite this score being lower thanThe Mandalorianseasons 1 and 2 andObi-Wan Kenobi, it represents a positive change in the downward trend forStar Warsshows generally. It was also clearly enough to get the show renewed, asAhsokaseason 2 is currently in the works.

5The Acolyte
Google Trends Score: 31
The Acolytepremiered in June of this year, and although the show introduced a host of thrilling new characters, concepts, and planets, it was also met with considerable backlash and controversy, ultimately ending with its cancelation. It is perhaps not shocking, in light of that history, thatThe Acolyte’sGoogle Trends score is one of the lowest amongStar Wars’live-action TV shows released in the last 5 years, at 31. Like other inclusions on this list,The Acolyte’sGoogle Trends score is not directly representative of the quality of the show.
For myriad reasons,The Acolytefaced review bombing and online vitriol, including targeted online harassment of many of the actors. Undoubtedly, this had some bearing on Google Trends score, in addition toThe Acolyte’scancelation. Perhaps in the long-term,The Acolytewill receive a treatment similar to the prequel trilogy and become more beloved with time. At present, though,The Acolyte’slower Google Trends score suggests the show failed to gain interest on a larger scale.
6The Mandalorian Season 3
Google Trends Score: 30
Shockingly,The Mandalorianseason 3 had one of the lowest Google Trends scores of allStar Wars’live-action shows over the last 5 years, marking a massive difference between this season and the first two installations ofThe Mandalorian. Whereas seasons 1 and 2 had scores of 100 and 93 respectively,The Mandalorianseason 3 has a score of only 30 on Google Trends. This is congruent with much of the discourse aboutThe Mandalorianseason 3, which has suggested this most recent season is the show’s least popular.
I’ve Changed My Mind: Why I’ve Become One Of The Mandalorian Season 3’s Biggest Critics
As one of the biggest fans of The Mandalorian out there, I initially defended season 3 passionately. Now, I’m one of its biggest critics. This is why.
Issues raised about this season range from audiences disliking Din Djarin’s arc in the season to complaints that there was no clear or compelling plot. It will be interesting to see what this means for the franchise moving forward, especially withThe Mandalorian & Groguseemingly the next step for the show. Currently, it is still unknown whetherThe Mandalorianseason 4 is coming.
7The Book of Boba Fett
Google Trends Score: 25
Although Boba Fett is a belovedStar Warscharacter and has had numerous appearances acrosstheStar Warstimeline,The Book of Boba Fettwas not a very well-received show, and its Google Trends score reflects that. The second-lowest of all the scores forStar Wars’live-action TV shows,The Book of Boba Fetthas a Google Trends score of just 25. Despite incredible cameos by some ofStar Wars’biggest heroes, including Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano,The Book of Boba Fettwas generally not a hit with audiences.
It’s difficult to pinpoint where exactlyStar Warswent wrong withThe Book of Boba Fett, although it’s possibleStar Warsaudiences have something like resurrection fatigue, particularly following Palpatine’s return inThe Rise of Skywalker. WithThe Book of Boba Fettreleasing just two years after that movie, perhaps viewers weren’t ready to embrace yet another majorStar Warscharacter miraculously returning from the ‘dead.’ Whatever the case may be,The Book of Boba Fettremains the second-lowest rankingStar Warsshow in terms of Google Trends in recent years.
8Andor
Google Trends Score: 24
Bewilderingly,Andoris the lowest-ranking live-actionStar Warsshow in terms of Google Trends score in recent years. While it doesn’t seem to have gotten the recognition it deserved when it was released,Andoris now very well-regarded amongStar WarsTV shows, and, likeAhsoka, it is confirmed to be getting another season. Nevertheless,Andorhas a Google Trends score of just 24.
Andorhas a Google Trends score of just 24.
This again reinforces that Google Trends is not anywhere near the sole metric of a show’s success or quality, asAndoris certainly amongStar Wars’best shows in the last few years. It will be interesting to see howAndorseason 2 performs on Google Trends based on this score, and, as mentioned,Skeleton Crew’sscores are currently unknown. For now, however,Andoris shockingly the lowest-ranking live-actionStar Warsshow in terms of Google Trends score.
