In the world ofStar Wars Outlaws, only the most resourceful smugglers, making use of every tool available to them, will survive. In a galaxy gripped by imperial control, sometimes, not every problem can be solved with a blaster or even a lightsaber. While each of Kay’s 11 tools has its uses, some are drastically more versatile than others.
Knowing which tools to find first or spend resources upgrading is a powerful ability for any aspiring smuggler. Some upgrades also provide effects that completely change how a tool is used, making some much more versatile or easier to use with time. While Kay Vess will need to use all her skills, weapons, and knowledge to survive, nothing beats a simple tool to get her in or out of trouble.

What Syndicate Should You Side With Most In Star Wars Outlaws (& Who Should You Betray?)
There are four main syndicates Kay can align herself with in Star Wars Outlaws, but what are the benefits of choosing one over another?
11The Trusty Glowlamp
Lighting Kay’s Path Across The Galaxy
The Glowlamp is one of the simplest tools at Kay Vess' disposal, but not one without its uses. The Glowlamp provides focused light in dark areas, turning on automatically when the player needs it the most. This lamp provides a cool purple glow as opposed to the bright yellow of a standard flashlight, being a much prettier and more sci-fi-feeling inclusion.
Certain areas of the game will make the Glowlamp come in especially handy as an essential tool.Exploring at night or in dark caves without missing any treasure and walking off ledgeswould be much harder without a handy lamp. Glowlamps and Glowrods have been used from the Old Republicera to the original trilogy, making it no surprise one made its way onto Kay Vess' toolkit.

10Explosive Thermal Grenades
An Inelegant Weapon From A Less Civilized Time
It’s tough to beat the classics, and that’s where these thermal detonator Grenades come in. The high explosive damage dealt in a radius around where it’s throwncan be a deadly tool when they hit their mark. To make them even more powerful,Kay can unlock even deadlier Grenade boosts from the HotfixerTeekalater in the game, for the right price, of course.
Thankfully, Kay won’t have to look far to find them, asGrenades can be found all around the world inStar Wars Outlaws. Kay can either purchase Grenades for varying prices from vendors, scavenge them from the bodies of defeated enemies, or even steal some from their pouches. It’s always good to have an extra stockpile of Grenades, just in case things go south and she needs an explosive getaway.
9Elusive Smoke Bombs
Creating Openings For Quick Getaways Or Makeshift Cover
While it may not be as exciting as a standard Grenade, Smoke Bombs can be an even more useful tool. No matter how many Grenades or weapons Kay has at her disposal, sometimes the only safe option is to run away. That’s where the Smoke Bomb comes in,providing a cloud of coverage to block enemies' view from blasting Kay.
The ability to craft Smoke Bombs can be found atFalen Mounton the planet Toshara, requiring both the grappling hook and ion blaster to gain access. After navigating up the hillside and exploring the facility, Kay will come across the parts she needs to craft the new Smoke Bombs, along with some other bonuses. The Bombs themselves can be furtherupgraded to stun enemies caught in the blast, becoming the perfect two-in-one for evasion and offense in different scenarios.
8All Seeing Electrobinoculars
Knowledge Is Often The Most Powerful Tool In Star Wars Outlaws
The Electrobinoculars are an essential scouting tool for planning entry and escape routes inStar Wars Outlaws. With this early game tool, Kay can scan areas of interest and life forms to keep track of using glowing highlights. While it’s easy to forget at first, thesebinoculars are great for tracking patrolling enemies, making stealth gameplay all the easier.
Electrobinoculars are a powerful tool that many players forget to take advantage of, targeting up to 10 enemies at once.
While players may grow accustomed to Kay’s faithful companion Nix auto-marking enemies, the length is much shorter and isn’t able to target up to 10 enemies at once, as the binoculars can. To fully scope out an area, players will want to find a high vantage point with a clear view of the location they wish to explore. Highlighting key enemies or those with unusual patrols will be the difference between a successful stealth mission or a hazardous escape sequence.
7Treasure Hunting With The Holotracker
A Remnant Of The Legendary Jet Kordo’s Legacy
The Holotracker is one of the more unique items inStar Wars Outlaws, with its use confined to theJet Kordoquest chain of searching for lost vaults across the galaxy. Vault hunts on each of themany expansive planetsbegin with Kay matching up a holographic map projection to somewhere in the environment. After locating the area of the vault, the tracker acts as a homing beacon, beeping louder as Kay approaches closer to Jet’s hidden holodisc reader to unlock a secret entrance.
The tracker itself is obtained after the main story mission,The Wreck, where ND-5 explains the Holotracker’s true origin and purpose. Each vault is filled with great rewards that make it worth the effort to find, not to mention it being one of the more engaging side quests inStar WarsOutlaws. Aside from the vault of the loot, the intuitive methods of finding each vault is a rewarding experience on its own, making the player feel like a true treasure hunter.
6Bacta Vial For Quickly Heal Wounds
Classic Healing In A Conveniently Sized Package
The Bacta Vile is a simple yet useful method to quickly regain Kay’s lost health on the go. Similar to grenades, these healing items can be found virtually anywhere from vendors, looted enemies, or lying on the ground. Unlike grenades, these Vials are more viable in a wider range of situations where head-on combat isn’t the answer.
Players can never have too much of a good thing, and thankfully, Star Wars Outlaw knows this by letting Kay increase her Bacta Vial carrying limit. On top of being able to upgrade the capacity through Kay’s tool belt, players can also wear certain outfits that provide buffs to the Bacta Vials. For players who often find themselves in sticky situations,it’s good to have some extra healing options on hand in case things go southfor the infamous outlaw.
5Electroshock Prod To Perform Quick Takedowns
An Essential Tool For Any Serious Stealth Player’s Arsenal In Star Wars Outlaws
The Electroshock Prod allows Kay toquickly take down elite enemies from behind, being a key tool for stealth gameplay. Without this upgrade, some combat is inevitable for a stealth player, often saving the elite enemies for last or avoiding them entirely. Thanks to this upgrade, few enemies can stand in the way of a perfect stealth run.
To take down multiple enemies in stealth, players can command Nix to attack a second enemy simultaneously alongside Kay.
It does take a bit of work to unlock the Electroshock Prod compared to some items, starting with Kay’s arrival on the planet Akiva. After completing theDroidsmithquest and unlocking the planet’s Scavenger expert,Temmin Wexeley, Kay can finally start building the Electroshock Prod. Aside from some generic materials, all she needs to complete the device is anNL-02 Charge Emitterthat canbe found by either sneaking or blasting her way through excavation site 12 inThe Great Basin Lake.
Star Wars Outlaws Review: Dazzling Hives Of Scum & Villainy
Star Wars Outlaws focuses on a grimier, seedier side of the universe with a rich, detailed open world that features both new and legacy characters.
4A Handy Grappling Hook
Opening Up a Whole New Range of Area Exploration And Traversal
The Grappling Hook is always a fun inclusion in action-adventure games, reigning especially true in the open world ofStar Wars Outlaws. While its uses are confined to specific Grappling Hook anchors, they’re spread out enough to make it still feel useful. Fromopening up new paths in familiar areas or providing quick getaways, the Grappling Hook is incredibly versatile for all kinds of situations.
A Grappling Hook is a core part of every talented treasure hunter’s arsenal, but it isn’t limited to exploring ancient ruins here. Each Imperial base or unique stronghold will have plenty of different paths for the player to choose from, with some offering unique rewards on the way. The Grappling Hook is just one of these navigational tools, often being the most visible with on-screen prompts and visible gaps, being the most reliable method of traversal.
3Brute Forcing Doors With The Fusion Cutter
Backtracking To Find Even More Missed Treasure
The Fusion Cutter is an essential tool for players who want to collect everything they can in a single run. While it’s unlocked fairly late inStar Wars Outlaws, this tool can easily bypass many previously impossible-to-open doors. In most cases, backtracking will be worth the wait, as the rewards are scaled up to the level the player would have to be to unlock them in the first place.
The Fusion Cutter provides an added incentive for players to explore areas they might’ve missed on previous planets. This tool also opens up even more paths when taking on enemy strongholds or exploring new areas, giving Kay even more freedom in how she wants to tackle missions. While it’s a simple device, it’s a key item for players who want to explore and collect everything there is in the galaxy, becoming the ultimate collector alongside the ultimate smuggler.
2A Convenient To Carry Data Spike
Themed Lockpicking To a Musical Tune
Data Spiking is a unique take on theclassic lockpicking in many open-world games, with a twist that makes it stand out from the crowd. While most players have come to expect the simple mini-game of twisting a pick to find the sweet spot,Data Spiking takes a little getting used to. After accessing a spike-able interface, a series of beeps are played that Kay has to match the rhythm of to unlock it.
Closing your eyes and listening to the sounds can make Data Spiking easier, or players struggling with the mini-game can adjust its difficulty in the settings.
Thankfully, the Data Spike is one tool players will add to Kay’s arsenal very early into the game with one of its first starting missions.Anything worth locking behind a door is worth breaking into, adding an incentive to spike just about any lock in sight. Not only will this tool be used frequently throughout the game, but its presentation is a breath of fresh air when compared to the generic lockpicking seen in so many other games.
