Fallout: New Vegashas plenty of landmarks that became instantly iconic amongst the community, butthis player was lucky enough to see one in real life. Within a playthrough of Obsidian Entertainment’s beloved RPG, players will likely stumble upon Helios One, a massivesolar farm commandeered by the New California Republic. The organization is doing its best to reactivate the technology in a bid to provide its various outposts with power, but players can alter the group’s plans by making some changes to the system and going so far as to share electricity with the whole Mojave.

Posted to Reddit by usergeotristan, the lucky fan shared an image of an actual solar farm built just outside Las Vegas.

The aerial shot of the facility captures the familiar formation of the solar panels surrounding a central building, a place manyNew Vegasfans will likely recognize as Helios One’s head of operations. It’s worth noting that the solar farm, which is likely Ivanpah Solar Power Facility, probably didn’t inspire the location in New Vegas given thatit only began construction in 2010, the same yearNew Vegaswas released.

Helios One Is A Big Part Of New Vegas

The Power Of The Sun, In The Palm Of My Hand

Helios One is an especially important point inFallout: New Vegasas it can significantly help or hinder the player’s reputation amongst the Mojave’s various factions. Those who wish to please the NCR can simply go along with the organization’s plan.Doing so will turn on the solar farm and send a good amount of electricity to various outpostsscattered around the desert but will leave anyone outside the group without power.

Altruistic players can alsotake Helios One into their own hands by choosing to activate the facility and projecting power to everyone across the Mojave. The amount of electricity everyone receives is lessened but at least it’s shared fairly. Lastly, those who despise the NCR can usethe solar farm to activate ARCHIMEDES II, an orbital laser strike that can wipe out every trooper in the area, ruining the Courier’s reputationwith the faction.

Dedicated fans will know thatFallout: New Vegasis littered with locations inspired by landmarks from the real Mojave Desert. McCarren Field is an actual airfield that was opened in 1943 and changed its name to Harry Reid International Airport in 2021. Perhaps most surprisingly, the dinosaur statue that stands outside Novac is based on Cabazon Dinosaurs, a roadside attraction that can be found just west of Palm Springs.
