The trailer for theFamily GuyHalloween Special has arrived. The upcoming episode of the long-running adult animated sitcom will be the first of two Hulu exclusive holiday specials meant to kick offFamily Guyseason 23as part of the celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary, a streaming television event that was announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.
Huluhas nowunveiled the official trailer for the upcomingFamily GuyHalloween Special. It begins with the family gathered in a Spirit Halloween-esque store for a gag where Peter proudly announces that they are a family that doesn’t use changing rooms before launching into showcasing the trials and tribulations of one of the main storylines of the episode, a Pumpkin Contest that pits the show’s iconic characters against champion Patrick McCloskey, voiced by guest star Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick,Anyone But You,Twisters).

However, things go from bad to worse whenStewie’s teddy bear Rupert (voiced in this episode byGladiator’s Derek Jacobi) gains sentience and grabs a knife, seemingly with the intent to go on a murder spree. This may be linked with Stewie’s Frankensteinian antics in the final beat of the trailer, when he shuts off electricity to the house, also turning off the Wi-Fi, to everyone’s consternation. What This Halloween Special Means For Family Guy
The Episode Offers A Major First For A Longtime Supporting Character
Alongside this trailer release,Screen Rantwas able to sit down for an exclusive interview withFamily Guyshowrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin. They were able to offer insight into the way Rupert is essentially the crux of the episode. His storyline, which Sulkin described as having a “Single White Female element where Rupert is telling Stewie ‘if I can’t have you, no one can,” is essentiallythe simultaneous focal point of both the Halloween aspect of the special and the anniversary celebrationfor the iconicadult cartoon.
Single White Femaleis a 1992 thriller starring Jennifer Jason Leigh as a young woman who is obsessed with her roommate (Bridget Fonda) to the point of trying to murder her and take over her life.

While Rupert has spoken occasionally on the show, the upcomingFamily Guyepisodefeatures the first major storyline he has been given. To honor how important this moment is for the show as a whole, they brought on Jacobi to voice the character, asthe iconic actor has worked with writer Gary Janetti previously on the Ian McKellen seriesVicious. Appel said that “the idea of taking such a classically trained actor who comes by his accent naturally felt right for Stewie’s partner.”
Our Take On The Family Guy Halloween Special Trailer
The Episode Could Be A Strong Way To Start Off The Anniversary Season
The trailer for theFamily GuyHalloween Special does not give too much away, but it does hint that the episode could be a propulsive and funny way to kick off the anniversary season. Guest star Glen Powell, who got cast when Appel ran into him by happenstance shortly before the table read, could also provide the special with a huge boost. As the showrunner, who calls the actor a “great guy,” asks, “who better to play a cocky a**hole” than theTwistersstar?
