Jason Statham has been in fiveFast and Furiousmovies already, but the best possible Shaw spinoff has yet to happen. After going after Dominic Toretto and his family inFurious 7to avenge what was done to his brother in the previous film, Deckard Shaw returned as an ally inThe Fate of the Furious. Shaw joined Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs as anotherFast and Furiousvillainwho was redeemed and got to join the family, althoughaccepting Statham’s character as one of the good guys was not easy given that he had presumably killed Han.
Shaw’s redemption inThe Fate of the Furiouswas highly controversial, especially because Han’s death would only be retconned in F9.

Regardless, Shaw being redeemed allowedFast and Furiousto explore a new pairing that stole the show inThe Fate of the Furious– Hobbs and Shaw. Amidst Dwayne Johnson’s public feud with Vin Diesel followed by The Rock’s confirmed absence from the ninth installment, the announcement of a Hobbs and Shaw spinoff was not at all surprising. However, there is another Shaw story waiting to be told, and it doesn’t involve Hobbs.
Fast & Furious Should Have Done A Shaw Family Spinoff Already
The Cast And The Character Interactions Alone Would Make It Worth
Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw was the first member of the Shaw family to be introduced inFast and Furious. The villain ofFast & Furious 6ran his own team and was presented as the opposite of Dominic Toretto– someone who saw his teammates as disposable pawns rather than family. At the end ofFast & Furious 6, Owen Shaw gets badly injured following his encounter with Dominic Toretto and is put into a coma. This is when we met Deckard Shaw. The two brothers would team up inThe Fate of the Furious.
While Deckard Shaw essentially joined Dominic Toretto’s family inThe Fate of the Furious, Han’s death was retconned inF9.

The eighthFast and Furiousmovie also saw the inclusion of Helen Mirren’s Magdelene Shaw, the mother of Owen and Deckard Shaw. Seeing Helen Mirren in aFast and Furiousmoviewas great on its own, but the fact she was the matriarch of the Shaw family made those three characters even more fun. A fourth member of the Shaw family would then be introduced inHobbs & Shaw– Vanessa Kirby’s Hattie Shaw. Between the incredible actors involved and all the fun possibilities, aShaw family spinoff movie should have happened already.
The Fate Of The Furious Showed How Fun The Shaw Family Could Be
Dominic Toretto Would’ve Lost Without The Shaw Family’s Help
The Fate of the Furiousteased how fun a Shaw family spinoff could be. Not only did it bring Jason Statham’s character back as one of the good guys, but it also featured the surprising return of Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw in addition to the introduction of Helen Mirren’s character. The Shaws stole in the show inThe Fate of the Furiousand played a huge role in the movie’s plot. Queenie Shaw was the reason Dominic Toretto managed to outplay Cipher, not to mention how the Shaw brothers were the ones who rescued Dom’s son.
Fast X’s post-credits scene saw the return of Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs, who had been away from the main series since 2017.
The scene where Owen and Deckard Shaw team up on the plane to kill all of Cipher’s men and then rescue the baby was hilariously entertaining a highlight of the movie. Unfortunately, we never had another Owen and Deckard spinoff. Likewise, whileHobbs & Shawintroduced a new member of the family,Vanessa Kirby’s character has yet to return in aFast and Furiousmovie.A spinofffilm led by Jason Stathamalongside Luke Evans, Vanessa Kirby, and Helen Mirren should be a no-brainer forFast and Furious– the saga is about family after all.
What Is Next For Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw In Fast & Furious?
Hobbs & Shaw 2 Still Hasn’t Happened
Deckard Shaw made a cameo in F9 and had a small role inFast X, during which Statham’s character got to meet Han after “killing” him. Shaw went off to do his own thing as the rest of Dom’s team continued their mission, but given thatthe entire Shaw family is being targeted by Dante Rayes, it’s safe to say Statham’s character will return in theupcomingFast & Furious 11. Interestingly,Fast X’s post-credits scene saw the return of Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs, who had been away from the main series since 2017.
Five years later, the status ofHobbs & Shaw 2remains uncertain. Anew Hobbs movie was announced by The Rockon the same weekFast Xcame out, but not much has been revealed about it since. The upcomingFast & Furious 11is expected to be the conclusion of the main saga as far as we know it, meaning it could perhaps be the end of Deckard Shaw’sFast and Furiousstory as well.
