Ghost of Tsushima 2, officially known asGhost of Yotei, has officially been revealedat the latest PlayStation State of Play with a stunning trailer.Ghost of Tsushimais one of PlayStation’s biggest new franchises and sent the PS4 generation out with a bang in 2020. The samurai game was praised for its satisfying gameplay and vivid world that depicted Tsushima’s beauty, but contrasted it with bloodshed and destruction. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel for years now and Sucker Punch is finally ready to deliver on that.
During the PlayStation State of Play, Sony finallyannouncedGhost of Tsushima 2and confirmed it will release in 2025. TheGhost of Tsushimasequel is known asGhost of Yoteiand follows a new hero known as Atsu in the area of Mount Yōtei. In aPlayStation Blogpost, Sucker Punch confirmed thatGhost of Yoteiwill take place in 1603, over 300 years afterGhost of Tsushimasodon’t expect any appearance from Jin Sakai. Ghost of Yotei’s setting will serve as a strong contrast to that of Tsushima, according to Sucker Punch. It is outside of Japan’s rule and filled with new vistas for players to enjoy,including snowy tundras and grasslands.Ghost of Yoteiis also Sucker Punch’s first game built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5, which will let the studio create a more immersive, captivating world, expand on the gameplay mechanics of the series, and introduce new weapons to the series.

With Sucker Punch embracing theGhost of Tsushimasequel as a completely different story with new characters,it seems like this could be PlayStation’s ownAssassin’s Creed. With the exception of some early entries with Ezio,Assassin’s Creedtypically features brand-new characters in every game. This allows Ubisoft the chance to go to other settings, other historical periods, and mix up the gameplay in exciting ways.
Ghost of Yoteiis leaving Jin behind in favor of focusing on the idea of the “Ghost”, similar to a Batman-esque character that can dull out justice/be a protector during other periods of history. It’s likely that a third game will continue this new tradition and take players to another period in Japanese history with a new character and location.

Regardless of what a third game looks like,Ghost of Yoteilooks promising. After not having a major first-party AAA exclusive in 2024, fans were getting worried about the state of PlayStation. By leaving fans with a promise of what’s to come for 2025, PlayStation has eased some concerns.Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,Ghost of Yotei, and possibly some other games will all release on PS5 in 2025, meaning there should be plenty of games to play next year.
