While rumors claimed aGod of Warremaster would show up at the latest PlayStation State of Play, recent reports claimthe reveal may be linked to a more celebratory occasion. Despite the community largely loving Sony Santa Monica’s Norse chapter in Kratos' rage-fueled saga, long-time players have waited years to return to the protagonist’s Greek roots. Many are hoping that Sony will make the older games in the series, which were released on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable, playable on modern hardware.
According to reputable leaker and journalistJeff Grubbon Blue Sky, the recent claims regarding theGod of Warremaster weren’t incorrect but rather premature.Grubb notes that he’s heard that the reveal will coincide with the franchise’s 20th anniversary, meaning it will allegedly be unveiled on March 22, the day the original game launched in 2005. There is an event set to be held in March to celebrate the anniversary, as popular artist Kris Anka has confirmed that he’s creating a piece for the show, but further details have yet to be announced.

A Return To Greek Mythology?
Or Maybe Something A Little More Recent
As with all rumors of this nature, it’s worth taking Grubb’s report with a grain of salt until Sony officially announces some kind ofGod of Warremaster. While Grubb’s track record is strong, this isn’t the first time there’s beentalk about the older gamescoming to modern hardware. The widely held belief is that if Sony Santa Monica does remaster the Greek trilogy it will also be released on PC, which would be a first for the older games.
Having said that, there’s also a chance that the remaster will be something far more recent:God of War2018.PlayStation has irked many users in recent years by re-releasing relatively recent gameswith updated visuals and minor quality-of-life upgrades. The announcement ofHorizon Zero Dawn Remasteredprompted the community to question the need to return to the popular open-world game; Fans reacted similarly to thereveal ofDays Gone Remastered.

The Next God Of War Game Switching Settings To Egypt Could Make It The Darkest Entry Yet
The next God of War game is rumored to be changing its setting to Egypt, which is not only a great idea, but could make the series so much darker.
Bring Back The Action Games Of Yesteryear
The Greek Gods Deserve Some Love
While I, alongside many other fans, am desperate for an easy way to play the originalGod of Wartrilogy,I wouldn’t be surprised if the rumored remaster does turn out to be the 2018 reboot. It’s an excellent game in its own right and having it available on both PlayStation and PC is great, but those older games were unique and incredibly fun,if somewhat more simplistic. Some parts may not have aged well, as is the case with most games from 2005, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored.
