Reports have suggested that John Lithgow could be nearing a deal to play Dumbledore and that Paapa Essiedu is being eyed for the role of Snape.Murphy hasn’t actually been reported by any reputable sources to be in the running for Voldemort, but the fancast has gained traction in part because former Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes was asked about the casting onWatch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and he voiced his approval:

“Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.”

Fiennes also isn’t the onlyHarry Potterveteran to voice support for Murphy, asSorcerer’s StoneandChamber of Secretsdirector Chris Columbus toldEWthat he thinks Murphy’s casting “would be amazing.“Murphy won an Oscar for his starring role inOppenheimerand his star power has grown over the last few years, meaning he’d certainly bring a degree of prestige to the show if he were cast. Whether Murphy would actually want to be involved in theHarry PotterTV show, however, is not something he has addressed.
