WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Hellbound season 2.

Hellboundseason 2 had an action-packed finale as Min Hye-jin did everything she could to rescue and protect Park Jung-ja, whose resurrection risked changing the world just as much as her death did. WhereasHellboundseason 1was about the world slowly coming to accept what Jung Jin-su was saying about the decrees as truth, season 2 of thesupernatural K-dramawas about different groups trying to fill in the vacuum left by Jin-su’s disappearance.Secretary Lee was working from the shadows to eradicate Arrowhead while also weakening New Truth, a plan that involved Jung-ja’s fate.

Kim Jeong-chil, who replaced Jin-su as the chairman of New Truth, cut out a deal with the government through Secretary Lee. He would use Park Jung-ja to launch a new belief system – one that would still be based on the ideas preached by Jin-su but would frame Arrowhead followers as non-believers. However, realizing that New Truth was at the hands of someone incapable, Jin-su aligned himself with Arrowhead and stormed the building during Jung-ja’s speech to the world.During the fight between New Truth, Arrowhead, and Sodo, Ji-su had to face his inner demons– literally.

What Happened To Jung Jin-su (Is He An Executor Now?)

Jung Jin-su Transformed Into A Monster

Jung Jin-su’s resurrection inHellboundwas a major storyline in season 2, althoughmost people did not know that the former New Truth Chairman had died in the first place.InHellboundseason 2, episode 1, before he returns to the world of the living, Jin-su has visions from the perspective of different people in different times and places. One of those visions was as if he was his mom’s lover on the day she decided to abandon her son to run away with that man. Ji-su also had a vision in which he was about to be burned.

Jin-su’s time in Hell – whatever Hell is the world ofHellbound– was clearly not the best of experiences. The character was still being hunted by visions of monsters even after he was resurrected, which is why he was so obsessed with finding Jung-ja and talking to her. Jung-ja was the only other known case of resurrection, meaning that she was the only person that could understand what Jin-su was going through. However,Jung-ja revealed that she was not seeing monsters and that she never forgot who she was. This made Jin-su extremely angry and frustrated.

Sungjip in Hellbound

The fact that Jin-su turned into a giant creature at the end of season 2 suggests that Hellbound’s executors were once humans.

This is when Jin-su started to transform into the very creature he could not stop having visions of – an executor. It seems that, unlike Jung-ja, Jin-su was never really sure of who he was as a person and had an of guilt and regrets. Whereas Jung-ja was able to return from Hell and remember her kids,Jin-su barely knew who he was and continued to be hunted by the monsters. He remained a coward and somehow transformed into an executor, disappearing from the world of the living shortly after fully morphing into a creature.

Senior Secretary Lee’s Plan In Hellbound Season 2 Explained

Secretary Lee Wanted To Manipulate Both Sides

Secretary Lee was a major player in season 2 and tried to manipulate all threeHellboundfactions. While the president never appears on the show, Secretary Lee was acting in the government’s best interests. In other words, she wanted to eradicate Arrowhead while also reducing the power and the political influence of both the New World and Sodo. However, the government was aware that it was too late to eradicate New Truth. More than a political group,New Truth was now the country’s most practiced religion.

This is why the government wanted to create a slightly different belief system that would still be considered part of New Truth but would alienate Arrowhead, which seemed to be by far the most dangerous group. Secretary Lee believed that the key to doing that was Jung-ja, as her resurrection could be used as the starting point of a new religion. This is why Jung-ja’s speech at the end ofHellboundseason 2 was supposed to be so important. However,Secretary Lee eventually decided that playing along with New Truth was too dangerous.

Once Secretary Lee changed her strategy and realized that New Truth would be impossible to control no matter the circumstances, Sung-jip decided to kill Park Jung-ja. When asked by Hye-jin why he tried to kill Jung-ja,Sung-jip said some group would eventually get to her and use her as a weapon.

Young-jae and Jin-ah’s child has been an important part of the puzzle inHellboundsince the second half of season 1. The baby had apparently survived a decree, although her parents died trying to protect her. Hye-jin took in the baby and raised her in a secret, isolated facility run by Sodo. It’s still unclear why the baby had to die and come back.

What The Ending Of Hellbound Season 2 Really Means

We Still Don’t Know The Answers To A Lot Of Mysteries

Hellboundseason 2’s finale was all about different groups trying to use Jung-ja for their benefit without even caring about her. Hye-jin was one of the few characters on theNetflix K-dramawho always tried to help those in need no matter the consequences, which is why she fought to save Jung-ja’s life regardless of how dangerous she could be if used by New Truth, Arrowhead, or even the government.Season 2’s finale also exposed Jin-su for what he really was – a coward who couldn’t face his demonsand tried to punish the entire world for it.

How Hellbound Season 2’s Ending Sets Up Season 3

Jung-ja Warned Hye-jin That The World Will End Soon

Hellboundseason 2, episode 6 ends with countless angels appearing to different people all over the country at the same time, which was unheard of until now. Several of those involved in the fight between New Truth and Arrowhead were sentenced to Hell, including Senior Secretary Lee. After being rescued by Hye-jin, Jung-ja told her that“the world is going to end”soon. Given that Jung-ja was having visions from the future that came true, the end of the world may indeed be coming.

Hellboundalso still has plenty of questions to address, including but not limited to what exactly the angels are, why some people are being sentenced to Hell, and why some people have resurrected. WhileHellboundseason 2’s finale is satisfying enough, thehorror K-dramahas more than enough loose ends waiting to be resolved in a potential season 3.
