What The Poster Art Means For The Highlander Reboot

Henry Cavill Needs A Win

In addition to providing a look at what a modernHighlandermovie might look like, the poster art above also raises some interesting discussion points. Cavill, for example, leading the film is notable, as he arguably hasn’t starred in a successful film as the protagonist in quite some time. The last time Cavill led a successful blockbuster movie was in 2013 withMan of Steel, a film that earned mixed reviews from critics but was a box office hit.

Every Henry Cavill Action Movie, Ranked

With movies ranging from the DCEU, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Henry Cavill is one of film’s best action stars.

More recently, Cavill starred inThe Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare(2024), which was a critical success but was really more of an ensemble piece. He also starred in the successfulMission: Impossible – Fallout(2018), but Tom Cruise is the star of the show there. After disappointments likeArgylle(2024) andNight Hunter(2018), as well as a fizzled end to his tenure as Superman withBlack Adam(2022),theHighlanderreboot could be the film that finally gives Cavill another big win as a leading man.

Our Take On The Highlander Poster Art

Though it’s unclear how audiences will respond to theHighlanderreboot, the poster art certainly suggests that the property can be updated for a modern theatrical landscape. The original is campy and has a certain ’80s flair, butStahelski could be just the filmmaker to rejuvenate the franchise with his unique and stylish action sensibilities. TheJohn Wickfranchise, after all, has been majorly successful.

John Wick: Chapter 4grossed $440 million worldwide and has a 94% onRotten Tomatoes.

It’s worth noting, too, thatJohn Wickstar Keanu Reeves was arguably in a rough patch in his career before the 2014 action film, and that franchise totally brought him back to the forefront in Hollywood. It’s possible, in Stahelski’s hands, that theHighlanderreboot will do the same for Cavill.
