Honkai: Star Rail’s 3.0 update added a handy new reroll tool in the Variable Dice, but how exactly do they work? 3.0 was a huge update forStar Railin many ways, principally with the story moving on to the Greek-inspired planet of Amphoreus. This came with adding a new Path, Remembrance, focused on units with summons. The first two characters following this Path are the Trailblazer and the upcoming 5-Star Aglaea. 3.0 also sees the full reveal ofThe Herta and her best buildsin their 5-Star Emanator status.
Along with Variable Dice, the 3.0 update added other quality-of-life features from thelist of expectations forStar Railin 2025. The arguably biggest addition is the Wishful Resin, which allows players, when building a custom relic, to select their sub-stats under certain conditions. This can work hand-in-hand with the new in-game character build guide, which will show what stats and sets are best for characters. Finally, a gadget to help find hidden chests was added for those pesky well-hidden loot.

How To Get Variable Dice
Limited With Extreme Value
Currently, there are three ways to get Variable Dice inHonkai: Star Rail. The first way, which is the only free/gift option, is from the Mem’s Gift rewards at the start of 3.0. This gives one Variable Dice along with ten pulls for the limited-time banners. However, this is a one-time gift, so this cannot be relied on for consistent acquisitions. The extra pulls are a huge boon in itself, as a new region means numerous new powerful units to pull for.
All Confirmed & Leaked Honkai: Star Rail Character Banners From Versions 3.0 Through 3.2
While HoYoverse has confirmed two new characters for Honkai: Star Rail 3.0, four other 5-star units have been leaked for Versions 3.1 and 3.2.
The other two ways to get Variable Dice are consistent. The first is that they can be crafted in the Synthesizer for the cost of three Self-Modeling Resins. This is a hefty price, but could be good if you do not need to craft custom relics as much and simply fix the ones you already have. The other option is getting one Variable Dice at tier 40 of each Nameless Glory pass. However, this is locked behind the paid track, so you would have to pay to unlock it.

How To Use Variable Dice
Another Roll Of Luck
Variable Dice are simpler to use than they are to acquire. The one caveat is that they can only be used on 5-Star Relics that are at level 15. Once at this level, the relic will have a new button to give the reroll option. This will consume the Variable Dice and reroll the relic to give new values to each sub-stat. you may then choose to either keep the old stat rolls or change to the new ones. This choice is crucial, as it avoids making a good/bad relic even worse.
Rerolling will not change what the sub-stats are, only the numerical values.
This is perfect for those relics, perhaps slotted intoHonkai: Star Rail’s best DPS units, that have three or four of the ideal sub-stats but simply didn’t roll in one’s favor.A feature like this continues HoYoverse’s more casual-friendly approach to many of the tedious grinds that generated complaints inGenshin Impact. Of course, the trade-off is these resources are not acquired frequently, but they can still be received just enough to feel valuable and useful inHonkai: Star Rail.
