Taylor Sheridan’s seven-time collaborator, James Jordan, explains howLandmanwill be different from the creator’s other shows. Based on theBoomtownpodcast and written by theYellowstonecreator,Landmantakes a deep dive into the oil business at the heart of West Texas. The series’first episode will air on Sunday, November 17 on Paramount+and stars Billy Bob Thornton in the lead role as Tommy Norris alongside Demi Moore and Jon Hamm. Jordan has starred in a dozen ofSheridan’s TV projects, includingYellowstone,1883, andMayor of Kingstown.

In a group interview withScreen Rant, Jordan teased what separatesLandmanfrom the rest of Sheridan’s projects. The actor explained that the show is another “frontier” and “unexplored world” that journeys into the unknown. The same spirit is also reflected in the filming process, where they filmedwhat was written in the script “originally” and told their truth. Read his comment below:

Kevin Costner as John Dutton III in Yellowstone.

You know, it all starts with Taylor’s words, his scripts. We shoot the first draft most of the time they come polished. There’s adjustments here or there on the day, guys, but we’re shooting what he wrote originally. So, it starts with the page and starts with the script, and then under his excellent direction, and then working with these fantastic folks here, and then Billy Bob and Ali and and Mr. Hamm, and all those fine folks, you just show up the set and hit your mark and tell the truth and then hope it attracts an audience. We think this one will, because, of course, it’s another Taylor Sheridan world, unexplored world, another frontier. And when you explore a frontier, you’re exploring the unknown, and we want folks to come along for the ride with us.

Jordan also revealed thatSheridan “flexes that funny bone” withLandman, and it’s going to “surprise folks.” Check out what he said below:

Billy Bob Thornton in a Cowboy Hat in Front of an Oil Rig in Landman

Great point. I was just going to say, this is probably the funniest thing he’s ever written. Don’t you think? I think it is. He really flexes that funny bone in this one, and it’s going to surprise folks, and it gives folks a chance to catch their breath between the big set pieces that we have through all 10 hours here. So yeah, a lot of fun.

Landman Will Show A New Side Of Taylor Sheridan

Landman Won’t Be So Heavy

Reviews for the new Taylor Sheridan show are rolling in ahead of its premiere. Sheridan is known for gaining traction and viewers' love over time, but the first season of his show has a trend of receiving low critical scores. However, this isn’t the case with the new Paramount+ series.Landmandebuts with an 81% critical approval rateon Rotten Tomatoes, granting the showan official “fresh” status and breaking the creator’s season 1 curse.

Taylor Sheridan’s Next TV Show Isn’t The Yellowstone Replacement That You Are Looking For

The next TV series in Taylor Sheridan’s lineup is being called the next Yellowstone, but it’s quite different from the neo-Western drama.

Aside fromthe Billy Bob Thornton-ledLandman,1883is Sheridan’s only other show about the frontier, but theYellowstoneprequel has a heavy tone, given that the journey back then was cursed by deaths and tragedies. Jordan’s comment indicates that the new show will give viewers time to breathe between tackling heavy topics.Even though the frontier experience is full of danger, the show will have fun and humorous elements.

Our Take On How Landman Will Be Different

A Mixture Of Love, Fun And Hardship

Having humor in characters' lines also means thatthe show could potentially be more character-centered in comparison to1883.TheYellowstoneprequeltells the story of the Duttons crossing the Great Plains in the hope of finding a land to settle that would give them a better future. While it features a group of immigrants, it hardly dives into those characters and their culture.

The show about the oil business will be different aside fromthe ensemble cast seen in1883and other Sheridan series. Humor is missing from Sheridan’s previous frontier show, and by having it, viewers can connect to the characters better. With everything being said,Landmansounds like the whole deal.
