While Marvel Studios has answered one huge Avengers Tower mystery in the trailers forThunderbolts*, there are still huge questions surrounding this mysterious buyer that I am desperate to get answers to. Until very recently, thenew owner of the former Avengers Towerhad remained a mystery to us since it was sold by Tony Stark during 2017’sSpider-Man: Homecoming. We all theorized that the landmark of New York in theMCUcould have been bought by the Fantastic Four, Wilson Fisk or a variant of Kang the Conqueror, but the truth was actually kind of surprising.
Trailers forMarvel Studios' upcomingThunderboltsmovie confirmed thatJulia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine bought Avengers Tower. This was a huge revelation for Marvel Studios to give away in a trailer, which has me thinking that there is something more sinister going on with this much-anticipated reveal. While we now knowValentina is residing in Avengers Tower, there are still huge mysteries concerning exactly why she bought the building, and I am desperate forThunderboltsto provide some much-needed answers.

Valentina May Have Bought Avengers Tower To Be The Thunderbolts’ HQ
The Thunderbolts Will Need A Base Of Operations In The MCU
Throughout the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, we’ve seenValentina Allegra de Fontainepop up around a number of the members of the upcoming Thunderbolts team. She first appeared alongside John Walker inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, rebranding him as US Agent, before showing up at Natasha Romanoff’s grave inBlack Widowto send Yelena Belova on a mission. This makes me think that Valentina will have an active hand in forming the Thunderbolts, though trailers for the 2025 movie have told us a different story, but this could explain her purchase of Avengers Tower.

If she wanted to bring together a team of antiheroes and reformed heroes, perhaps to replace theabsent Avengers in the MCU, Valentina would need a place to put them. I can’t imagine anywhere better suited to house an Avengers replacement team than the Avengers' own previous headquarters. It would make sense for Valentina to buy Avengers Tower to use as the Thunderbolts' base of operations, but I’ve gathered from the trailers that she won’t actually be involved in forming the team, so I’m still confused about her purchasing the building.

Black Panther 2 Revealed A Power-Hungry Valentina Who May Have Bought The Tower For Herself
Valentina Could Have Bagged Herself An Evil Lair
2022’sBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverincluded huge revelations about Valentina. Not only was she revealed to be Everett Ross' ex-wife, but she was also confirmed to be the currentDirector of the CIA in the MCU.Valentina put her powerful and intimidating personality front-and-center inWakanda Forever, and expressed her interest in the United States having exclusive access to Wakanda’s vibranium, which makes me think she is purely power-hungry. This could convince me that she bought Avengers Tower just for herself.
The MCU Finally Has A Replacement For HYDRA After Almost A Decade
Marvel Studios has just revealed the upcoming debut of a new supervillain group, which could be the perfect replacement for HYDRA in the MCU.
Despite being one of New York’s most recognizable landmarks, Avengers Tower is little more than an office building and workspace. For someone with as big an ego as Valentina’s, it makes sense that she would want this entire building for herself - if only just for the bar.I have absolutely loved seeing Julia Louis-Dreyfus bring her charisma and magnetism to Valentina, and she has quickly become one of my favorite MCU characters, no matter how morally-questionable she might be. My thoughts about Valentina will be cemented if it’s revealed she bought Avengers Tower just for kicks.

The Government Or The CIA May Have Purchased Avengers Tower
Valentina Is The Director Of The CIA In The MCU
Since Valentina is the Director of the CIA, it makes the most sense to me that the United States government or the CIA itself would have purchased Avengers Tower. This could have nefarious purposes, asthe government may be interested in building its own team of superheroes, which is perhaps where the Thunderbolts come in.President Ross asks Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengersin the trailers forCaptain America: Brave New World, I could see him refusing, forcing the government to bring together their own team inThunderbolts*, and perhaps housing them inside Avengers Tower.
Harrison Ford’s President Ross will become the Red Hulk inCaptain America: Brave New World, which could set him up for a role in the Thunderbolts team if he reprises the role after his debut.
We’ve seen inThunderbolts*‘trailers thatthe titular team don’t seem to be working for Valentina, and are in fact opposing her, which makes me think that an even darker superpowered team could appear in the MCU’s Phase 5. This could pay off theories that characters such as Zemo and Abomination would be involved with the Thunderbolts, maybe even setting up the Dark Avengers or theMasters of Evil for the MCU, any of which could operate from Avengers Tower. This could set up gritty storylines forThunderbolts*and beyond that I’m excited to see come to fruition.
