Vikings andVikings: Valhallahave been among the most popular historical action shows of the past decade, and surprisingly historically accurate in parts, with manyVikingscharacters based on real people. I was hooked from the beginning to the end.Theending ofVikingsseason 6disappointed some fans who would have preferred a last dramatic vision of the characters together in Valhalla, though I disagree. I thoughtVikingschose the perfect note to end on.

Ubbe and Floki could have changed America for Leif, in aVikings: Valhallasequel.

The peaceful ending scene which saw Ubbe in North America, reminiscing with Floki, one ofthe originalVikingscharacters to last the series, had me, as a spin-off skeptic, ready to say goodbye toVikings, but after watchingVikings: Valhalla, which follows a new set of warriors, I need something I have never asked for - a sequel.Vikings: Valhallacenters on explorer Leif Erikson, and while both series often followed real events,Vikingsaltered one huge and surprising historical detail that changed the fates of Ubbe and Floki: Neither went to America as far as we know, but Leif did.

How Vikings Changed History By Making Ubbe And Floki Go To America

Leif Erikson Is Thought To Be The First Viking To Reach America

The real Ubbe is thought to have invaded England as seasons 4 and 5 ofVikingsshowed.Ubbe did not explore North America, making the events in season 6 in which he tries to form a trade alliance with the Mi’kmaq tribe completely made up. The real Floki, like hisVikingscharacter, didn’t like Iceland, although he eventually settled there. He didn’t go to America either, butVikingshad Floki getting on well enough with the Mi’kmaq people to teach them Old Norse, more than a century before the first Viking was supposed to have found America.

Vikings: Every Country The Main Characters Visit (In Maps)

The titular vikings of Vikings explored many different parts of the world. What countries did all of the characters visit?

Manyhistorians think Leif Erikson was the first Viking to reach North America.Vikings: Valhallaended with its third season as planned, but before Leif reached America. I was reluctant to watch the spin-off at first, especially as, by many accounts,Vikings: Valhallajust isn’t quite as good asVikings, but, I liked it, and now need to see more. The historical difference means thatUbbe and Floki could have changed America for Leif.I need to know what would happen if Leif ended up in a place that they had visited and found evidence - or descendants - of Ubbe there.

Vikings: Valhalla’s Ending Makes Me Want A Sequel In America

A Vikings: Valhalla Sequel Could Continue The Story Of Leif And The Mi’kmaq People

As Leif discovered America, he could meet descendants of the Mi’kmaq people who encountered Ubbe and Floki, andchildren fathered by Ubbe could directly connectVikings, andVikings: Valhalla. This change from history could make aVikings: Valhallaspin-off unpredictable, but in a good way, also continuing the legacy ofVikingsfan favorite character Floki.I want to know what else Floki shared with the Mi’kmaq, besides his language, and I need to know if Naad’s greed and Ubbe’s mercy in executing him quickly would make the Mi’kmaq more or less wary of Leif’s crew.

The producers chose the Mi’kmaq language as it is closest to the language the Vikings would likely have spoken.

floki Ubbe vikings season 6-2

AVikings: Valhallasequel set in America could give us more insight into the Mi’kmaq people, centering Indigenous characters and potentially righting somethingVikingsoverlooked.Vikingsmight have been unlike any other TV show except, perhaps,Game of Thrones- which is what drew me to finally watch it in the first place, but it sometimes depicted colonizing Indigenous lands in a much more idealized, even romantic, way, so I’d love to see theVikingssaga get another chance to portray this aspect more accurately, from another perspective.

Could Another Vikings Show Happen?

The lack of aVikings: Valhallaseason 4 came as a surprise, as many of the storylines appeared to set up another season. Some might think that havingaVikingstimeline already in place in America might create a storytelling problem for aVikings:Valhallasequel, but it could also tell Leif’s story as it really happened, but with extra influence fromVikings andeaster eggs to interest fans of the original series, and I need to see what the showrunners and writers could do with that extra element, as well as new Mi’kmaq characters.

I’m So Mad Vikings Valhalla Season 4 Isn’t Happening

Vikings: Valhalla has ended with its third season, and as much as I enjoyed it, it made me mad that a fourth season isn’t happening.

Showrunner Jeb Stuart toldDigital Spythat"it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season"butthere were plans to continue theVikings: Valhalla storyif it was renewed for a fourth season. Vikings: Valhallaseason 3 ended with Leif and Freydis sailing away to explore new worlds, and while I think bad spin-offs rely on the reputation of the original series to excuse bad writing and one-dimensional characters, aVikings: Valhallasequel set in America would have every chance in the (New) World to shine.
