GivenStranger Things’s track record, it’s safe to say thatnot everyone will make it out of season 5 alive, and if any main character is going to die, I believe three are more likely than the others. In the first four seasons of the Netflix sci-fi horror series, the writers never killed off a true protagonist. Billy was the only one who came close since Dacre Montgomery was credited as a main cast member in seasons 2 and 3. However, the majority of his time onStranger Thingswas as a villain(even though he died a hero).

Stranger Thingsseason 5 will feature eight episodes — “Chapter One: The Crawl,” “The Vanishing of [TBA],” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape from Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and “The Rightside Up” (perTudum by Netflix).

Meanwhile, Barb was gone before viewers could get attached to hercharacter inStranger Thingsseason 1, and Bob and Eddie were only around for one season each. The Duffer Brothers almost killed off Hopper during the season 3 finale. However, season 4 revealed that he survived and was trapped in a Russian prison. No one from the Party (Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Max, and Will) has died, and neither have the main teenagers (Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Robin) or the central adults (Joyce, Hopper, and Murray). So, one or more of them will likely meet their doom in season 5.

3Steve Harrington

Played By: Joe Keery

Let me preface this by saying that Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington is one of the lastStranger Thingsmain characters I want to die, and I think most viewers agree with me. However, it might just be the fan-favorite character’s time to go.Many clues suggest that Steve will meet his demise inStranger Thingsseason 5— with the fact that the Duffer Brothers originally planned on killing him in season 1 as the most compelling of all.

Bret Gelman

Murray Bauman

Steve has had one ofthe best character development arcs inStranger Things. He has come a long way since the pilot episode, and perhaps the producers believe that the only way to close out his story is with a hero’s sacrifice. Plus, Steve is one of the most beloved figures in the Netflix sci-fi horror series. If any death is going to have a significant effect on the audience, it will be Steve’s.Stranger Thingsseason 5 also needs to resolve the Steve/Nancy/Jonathan love triangle, and Steve’s death certainly accomplishes that.

2Murray Bauman

Played By: Brett Gelman

Based on the firstfour seasons ofStranger Things, Brett Gelman’s Murray Bauman is toast. If one adult is to die in season 5, it’s going to beMurray, whose complex supporting/main role falls in line with the Netflix show’s past deaths(e.g., Bob, Eddie, Billy, etc.). It would be quite surprising if the writers targeted David Harbour’s Hopper again after the season 3 finale’s fakeout. And I just can’t imagine a world where Winona Ryder’s Joyce Byers doesn’t survive the last season ofStranger Things. Unfortunately for Gelman, that leaves his character, Murray.

One of Stranger Things' most popular theories has its merits, but it also has the potential to ruin the beloved Netflix show’s final season.

No offense to Murray, but his death would be considered safecompared to the otherStranger Thingsseason 5 main characters. His role is mostly comedic relief, and the only profound moment I can remember featuring Murray was when Alexei died in season 3. So, Murray wouldn’t be missed too much, which might be why the Duffer Brothers will want to kill him in the final season ofStranger Things, to raise the stakes but not upset the audience too much (before doing so with Steve’s possible death).

1Eleven

Played By: Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven is undoubtedly the face ofStranger Things, which doesn’t bode well for her survival chances in season 5. Eleven, aka Jane Hopper, has almost died several times throughout the Netflix sci-fi horror series. There are only so many times a character can cheat death, and Eleven is running on many lives.

It would be rather poetic if the show concluded with Eleven sacrificing herself for her loved ones.

TheStranger Thingsseries finalewill likely feature a final showdown between Eleven and Vecna, seeing that she is the only one strong enough to defeat him, and the fight could easily result in her death. It would be rather poetic if the show concluded with Eleven sacrificing herself for her loved ones. She has done so without losing her life time and time again throughout the series, and maybe Eleven won’t be so lucky to survive by the end ofStranger Thingsseason 5.
