In a Violent Nature 2024 Movie Poster

Unlike many horror movies in recent years,In A Violent Natureisn’t a sequel, remake, or adaptation of another work, and it’s a fully original story. In A Violent Naturetakes the audience to a forest, where a group of friends finds a locket hanging on the remains of a fire tower. One of the guys, Troy (Liam Leone), takes the locket despite his friend, Ehren (Sam Roulston), telling him about the disturbing story about the fire tower. Turns out that Ehren was right, but unbeknownst to them, taking the locket awakens the corpse of Johnny(Ry Barrett).

Johnny rises from the ground with revenge on his mind, and like other famous slashers, he doesn’t say a word and he doesn’t rush to get his victims, yet he always catches them. Ehren later tells his friends the story of Johnny: decades prior, Johnny, a developmentally delayed child and the son of a local merchant, was tricked into climbing the fire tower after being told a “bag of toys” was waiting for him. However, someone was waiting at the top to scare him, making him fall to his death and painting the events as an accident.

Why You Should Watch In A Violent Nature & What Stephen King Said About It

In A Violent Nature Is A Must Watch For Horror Fans

As mentioned above, what madeIn A Violent Naturestand out from other horror movies in its genre is that it’s mostly told from the killer’s perspective. This means thatthe audience follows almost every one of Johnny’s stepsfrom the moment he rises from the ground until the end of the movie, instead of following the killer’s targets. Because of this,In A Violent Naturealso has a slower pace than most slasher movies, but that’s also key to building tension as Johnny slowly approaches his victims and observes them before killing them.

“The slasher formula is a tried-and-true horror blueprint and, try as one might, it’s difficult to shake that up decades after the genre was first popularized. Writer and director Chris Nash’s In A Violent Nature may be the first slasher in a long time to truly deconstruct the genre in a way that feels surprising, even if the results of its experiment are mixed” – Graeme Guttmann,In A Violent Nature Screen Rant Review.
