Now, Reddit art from @Matsky1reimagines the main style ofInvincible. Using the assistance of the AI tool Midjourney, the artist postedrecreations of several of the show’s main characters in a CGI art style. The characters featured include Omni-Man, Mark, Debbie, Cecil, William, Allen the Alien, Amber, and Eve. The CGI reimagingings of these characters are extremely detailed, showing wrinkles, freckles, and hair texture to a degree that the original series cannot.

What This Imagined Style Change Means For Invincible

The Art Changes The Main Characters' Emotions

The AI transposition of theseInvinciblecharactersis not without its imperfections. For example, Cecil’s 2D animated design in the original series includes lines above his upper lip that are meant to signify a scar. In the Midjourney version of the character, his scar disappears completely, and instead, his face is textured with more wrinkles. IfInvinciblewere actually made with CGI, the creators would, of course, maintain key original details like this, but in this artistic version, some of the original intent is lost.

10 New Invincible Characters We’re Excited To Meet In Season 3

Invincible season 3 is on the way, and all kinds of new characters could appear based on the comics. So, here are the 10 we’re most excited for.

On the flip side, some othercharacters' intensity is amplified in the CGI version. Nolan / Omni-Man’s CGI figure particularly highlights this shift. While his actual 2D-animatedInvincibleself looks somewhat perturbed, the furrowed brow of his CGI counterpart is considerably more disgruntled. Debbie’s smiling expression also exudes clearer happiness in the CGI version than in the frame on which it is based. Whether these versions actually make improvements to the characters is a different question, but they certainly do make a different impact.

Our Take On Invincible’s Visual Style

The 2D Animation Is The Right Choice For This Series

While it is interesting to imagine whatInvinciblemight look like with 3D models, I think this art is a testament to why the Prime Video adaptation works as well as it does on a visual level. With Pixar, DreamWorks, and so many other major animators opting for a CGI format for their films and series,Invincibleoffers a refreshing 2D-animated take on its story. In part due to the stellar vocal performances, not once have I felt thatInvincibleloses emotion from its animation style. Rather, its 2D presentation only adds to its ineffable charm, even amidst bloody violence.
