In the wake of Superman’s death, four replacements attempted to fill his shoes, including Hank Henshaw. Now referred to as “the Cyborg Superman,” Henshaw has been absent from the DC Universe for some time, but makes a grand return inQuestion: All Along the Watchtower#3.
Question: All Along the Watchtower#3 was written by Alex Segura and drawn by Cian Tormey, and sees the titular heroine investigating an attempted murder on theJustice League’s new Watchtower. The Question interrogates the Eradicator, who attacked the Watchtower at the request of an unknown party. He taunts the Question, refusing to disclose who he is working for. Finally, the truth comes out: the Eradicator, Conduit and Nightshade are now working for the Cyborg Superman, Hank Henshaw, and the issue ends with him and his team scoring a victory over the Justice League.

Hank Henshaw was once an astronaut who, in a parody of the Fantastic Four’s origin, mutated after exposure to cosmic radiation. Henshaw became a disembodied intelligence, and left Earth. In space, Henshaw goes mad, blaming Superman for his predicament. Henshaw returns to Earth with a cloned body of Superman, augmented with cybernetic parts. Henshaw also managed to convince many that he was the genuine Superman.

The world learned the truth soon enough: Henshaw had joined forces with Mongul, hoping to reshape Earth into a new Warworld. The real Superman, aided by the other replacements, is successful in stopping the Cyborg’s plans, but Henshaw has managed to return on many occasions. Henshaw would also tangle with Green Lantern, and was one of the firstmembers of the Sinestro Corps.Every encounter with Henshaw proves him to be one of Superman’s most ruthless foes, and one of the most powerful.Henshaw has proven extremely hard to defeat, as his disembodied nature allows him to return often.

Now,Hank Henshaw stands on the cusp of what could be his biggest victory: taking control of the Justice League’s Watchtower.This new facility, in Earth orbit, is home to every hero on Earth, along with information on their identities. If Henshaw manages to wrestle control of the Watchtower, he would be able to strike at any hero at any time. Furthermore, Henshaw could corrupt the Watchtower’s technology to his own ends, turning it on the people of Earth. Such technology in Henshaw’s hands is a frightening prospect.
Nightshade is the outlier in Henshaw’s new squad, and there is a possibility she is playing her own game.

Henshaw had chosen his allies for this battle well. The Eradicator, who shares Kryptonian DNA with Henshaw, is extremely powerful in his own right. The Eradicator was not functioning at full power inAll Along the Watchtower#3, meaning he could have done a lot more damage than he did. Conduit, a once-serious threat to the Man of Steel, has reasserted himself alongside Henshaw. Nightshade is the outlier in Henshaw’s new squad, and there is a possibility she is playing her own game. Except for Nightshade, all of Henshaw’s team has an ax to grind with Superman.
