20th Century Studios is considering making a newAlien vs. Predatormovie — and thankfully, it’ll be nothing like the franchises’ previous crossover films. In a recent interview withThe Hollywood Reporter,20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell provided a bunch of exciting updates on the company’s upcoming productionsand development slate. He mentioned Sam Raimi’s new thrillerSend Helpand Jeremy Allen White’s Bruce Springsteen biopicDeliver Me from Nowhere, which are both about to begin filming, and he also brought up some tantalizing sequels.

Asbell confirmed that a sequel toKingdom of the Planet of the Apesis arriving in 2027. He also teased thatthere’s a secretPredatormovie in the worksthat’s already been shot, and that they’re having serious discussions with Fede Álvarez about developinga sequel toAlien: Romulusfollowing up on Rain and Andy’s journey. And not only that,he suggested that another crossover between theAlienandPredatorfranchises is on the cards— and it’ll be a different beast than the existingAlien vs. Predatormovies.

A New Alien Vs. Predator Would Have To Be Different From Previous Films

The Next Crossover Needs To Take Another Approach

AnynewAlien vs. Predatormoviewould have to take a very different approach than the previous films. The firstAlien vs. Predatorcrossover wasn’t terrible — it provided all the monster movie thrills promised by its title — but its sequel,Requiem, was the very definition of terrible. Audiences are more sophisticated now.A newAvPmovie either has to go big and bombastic, likeGodzilla vs. Kong, or go for a full-blown standalone horror experience, likePreyorAlien: Romulus.

The lastAvPmovie,Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, was released on June 16, 2025.

Asbell’s comments are a promising sign for this fresh take. He said it wouldn’t be “anything like the original movies,” and thatif they did make anotherAvPmovie, it would be “organically created out of these two franchises,” following the beloved characters that have already been introduced. One of the biggest problems with the previousAlien vs. Predatorfilmsis that they existed outside their respective franchises’ canon, so they were just generic action horror movies using familiar iconography to get butts in seats.

What The Ideal Alien Vs. Predator Movie Would Look Like After Prey & Romulus

A New AvP Movie Should Be Just As Interested In Story & Character As Blockbuster Spectacle

A newAlien vs. Predatormovie wouldn’t have to be directly tied toPreyorAlien: Romulus(although it would be really cool if it was), but it does have to repeat what they got right.BothPreyandRomulusweren’t just in the business of delivering jump scares and action set-pieces; they were just as interested in developing their charactersand their interpersonal relationships. AnAlien vs. Predatorreboot can’t just rely on the gimmick of the crossover; it needs to have a story worth telling and characters worth investing in, which the previousAvPfilms didn’t have.
