The release ofPeacemakerseason 2 and its longDC Universedelay is explained by John Cena. One of the TV shows that will be arriving inChapter 1: “Gods and Monsters,“is a blast from the past, as Cena will be reprising the role of Peacemaker for another season, with the show going from the DCEU to DCU. However, by the timePeacemakerseason 2 gets released, it will have nearly been more than three years since the airing of the season 1 finale.
In a new interview withVariety, Cena spoke briefly aboutPeacemakerseason 2, which is still in production. While not giving any new plot details away, Cena broke down the delay forPeacemakerseason 2, sharing the following:
What you got to understand and keep in mind is I’m the guy who plays Peacemaker, so when we come out with a show and it’s the No. 1 show on Max and, finally, we take a character who is supposed to be dead, bring Peacemaker back to life, and people enjoy the universe and want to see more of it — but then you have a shift in the structure of who is calling the shots over at DC. James and Peter actually both called me and said, ‘You know what, we want to take some time to do this right. But it’s just going to take a little time.’ So it was crazy to know we did something people want, they want more of it, let’s do it again. And everybody’s like, ‘No wait, we just got to do a few things first. And we have this whole plan, and it’s all going to work together. So if you just trust us, we’ll be okay.’ And it seems like forever ago, now that we’re filming every day, it seems like it will be just right around the corner that we’re watching Season 2.
How The DC Universe Reboot Schedule Affected Peacemaker Season 2
One of the biggest factors behindPeacemakerseason 2 coming later than may have been expected comes from the fact that it is taking part inJames Gunn’s DC Universe, which is mostly serving as a reboot. ThePeacemakerTV show is the only property from the DCEU franchise to continue as part of Gunn’s new continuity. However, having it released as the first live-action project in Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters,” would only be confusing for the general audience.
The reason why something like theCreature CommandosTV show is happening first is seemingly also in part because Gunn’sSupermanmovie was affected by the Hollywood strikes in 2023.Creature Commandosis additionally new enough to the point where it doesn’t get too distracting, despite players like Viola Davis' Amanda Waller being in the series. Gunn has also made it very clear thatPeacemakerseason 2will be taking place after the events ofSupermanin 2025, hence why it comes out after the film’s release.
The biggest question aboutPeacemakerseason 2, however, is how Cena’s TV show will address all the universe changes. Gunn has only revealed that not everything fromPeacemakerseason 1will be canon to season 2, which has already been indicated through various set photos. Hopefully, before 2024 is over, Gunn will have released at least some footage forPeacemakerseason 2.
