Amazing Spider-Man#63 – written by Justina Ireland, with art by Gleb Melnikov – ispart of the “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” arc, in which Marvel’s new Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom, sends Spider-Man on achaotic tour of the Marvel Multiverse. As the synopsis for the issue reveals, this will include an encounter with the offspring of Cytorrak, the freshly introduced Cyrios.

Despite being introduced into Marvel canon nearly sixty years ago, so much about Cytorrak remains a mystery. However, the details that fans have learned about the deity – particularly in the past several decades – have left readers eager to know more, a feeling many will experience once more with the tantalizing revelation of Cytorrak’s “scion,” Cyrios. Perhaps most exciting, in any case, is the extension of Cytorrak and his influencebeyond just the Juggernaut character, as Spider-Man’s interaction with his offspring opens up a whole new side of the Marvel Universe to the dark god.
In Marvel lore, Cytorakk and seven other “demon lords” are ancient, powerful beings who operate on Earth through “Exemplars,” avatars of their strength. While most readers will be familiar with Juggernaut, the other demon lords and their Exemplars have gone largely unexplored since their introduction.

During Juggernaut’s long tenureas anX-Menantagonist, he was largely described as following the will of Cytorrak; later, when the character firmly embraced heroism, a critical step in his redemption arc involved breaking his contract with Cytorrak, and stealing the power of the deity’s Gem. Now, there is also a new character in the Marvel Universe, Kid Juggernaut, who has radically altered Juggernaut’s lore, and by extension, Cytorrak’s. All of that is to say,Marvel seems to have greater plans for Cytorrak, the pieces of which are slowly being maneuvered into place.
