I wouldn’t sayJujutsu Kaisenmade me like reading manga more, but with the recent release of its finale,I’m glad I didn’t wait for the anime to catch up. Presently, anime-only fans have just got past the Shibuya Incident arc, waiting patiently forJujutsu Kaisen’s third season. It goes without saying, but I write about anime, and the fact is, so much happened after the Shibuya Incident arc, I basically had to catch up to write about the series.

I’m writing this for fans who are on the fence about whether they should wait forJujutsu Kaisen’s anime or simply read the manga to see how the story ends.Jujutsu Kaisen’s finale, while controversial, made this one of my favorite works of all time. I emphatically believe that people should read it. Even if the anime presents the things lying ahead for Yuji, Sukuna, Gojo, and others more effectively than the manga currently does,it’s still a story fans shouldn’t delay continuing.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Anime-Only Fans Have Only Seen The Tip Of The Iceberg

The first reason for that is that Gege Akutami, the mangaka behindJujutsu Kaisen,is an absolutely ingenious writer. Fans who have watched the anime have seen the beginning of an amazing journey—but it’s still only the beginning.Jujutsu Kaisenhas some of the tightest presentation and storytelling I’ve ever seen. There are traces laid out early in the story that build out into a beautiful climax.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident Opening Made it Even More Brutal

The Shibuya Incident is a devastating arc, but clever changes to Jujutsu Kaisen’s opening made it even more brutal than in the original manga.

Unlike other shōnen where villains-of-the-week often come and go, inJujutsu Kaisen, every character you meet (good or bad) has some role in a wider story that only fully comes together later. When it all collides, it’s an explosion of latent intensity you’re able to feel under your skin at its strongest moments: real electricity, real hype, real joy, real mourning.Jujutsu Kaisen’s last fifty chapters are potent and rewarding material, and the fact that the anime had already brought me close to these characters only made that sensation greater.

Takaba promising to make Kenjaku laugh

Some of the best characters and twists are yet to come, too. I can show a picture of the character Takaba and say he’s an empathetic character with a fantastic fight in store. But anime-only fans have no idea how he comes into the story—even though they already know everybody who will factor into that. That’s due to Gege’s meticulous web of indications. What’s been animatedhas only been the first rumble of an avalanche.

Jujutsu KaisenIs An Easy Read

Unlike Many Manga,Jujutsu KaisenIs Easy To Follow And Easy To Pick Up

There are many reasons people might not like reading manga. Some might struggle with attention. Others just think that animation is a better medium for a genre like battle shōnen. For more, still, time is a big factor. For me, specifically, I find it hard to parse out what’s happening when I read manga. I learned that about myself afterJojolion, the eighth part ofJojo’s Bizarre Adventure, got a color version, and it made me like the part a lot more, since I could understand it better. WithJujutsu Kaisen, that’s not as much of a problem.

With simple language and artwork that is both meticulous and decisively sparse,Jujutsu Kaisenis actually pretty easy to read.

That’s because of Gege Akutami’s captivating presentation.Jujutsu Kaisenis a case wherea beautiful anime is the result of a beautiful manga, as the gallery below shows. With simple language and artwork that is both meticulous and decisively sparse,Jujutsu Kaisenis actually pretty easy to read. Gege is also clearly a student of the “show, don’t tell” approach, and a lot ofJujutsu Kaisen’s perceived simplicity conceals a great depth. This is one of the reasons fans have so much fun interpreting the series, after all.

Time is an understandable concern.Jujutsu Kaisenis a challenging manga because if a packed schedule makes it hard to pick up,its content makes it impossible to put down. I found myself anxiously awaiting the next chapter’s release. Those who are pressed for time will likely eagerly anticipate picking the story up again if they leave off at the end of a chapter because of its great use of cliffhangers, but also satisfied because of its great pacing.

Jujutsu Kaisen Proves Gojo Was Never a Hero With One Brutal Moment

Gojo Satoru has always been a dark character but the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen shows he was never a hero after all.

Jujutsu Kaisenalso has a huge community that can help readers understand what they’re reading. I would find this to be a really great asset, because I have a lot of difficulty with visualizing fights. Major confrontations almost always have a ton of recapsì. I personally found YouTube explanations really helpful, but for every kind of thinker, there’s aJJKcommunity.

Jujutsu KaisenDemands To Be Discussed

On the subject of the community, I can’t count the number of times I’ve wanted to talk about something that happened later inJujutsu Kaisenwith a fan who hasn’t caught up. This can presenta real difficulty. Some spoilers obviously happen later, for example, and those are easy to avoid.

Remembering precisely when Yuji pulled off what number of black flashes is a lot harder. As a writer, this was really hard to manage. There are some developments toTodo and Yuji’s friendshiplater, which I had to be exceedingly careful ofwhile writing an article I wanted free of manga spoilers. Making matters worse, their friendship’s timeline was somewhat blurred across the manga and anime in my head.

What’s Next For Jujutsu Kaisen Now That The Manga Is Over?

While Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga may have concluded, the series is far from over, with plenty of other projects for fans to enjoy in the future.

It’s hard to be aJJKfan on Twitter or TikTok right now, especially.Jujutsu Kaisen’s community, in general, is pretty spoiler-happy. So many hype moments happen after the point where the anime leaves off, and it’s understandable (in a way) that fans would get excited about them and want to talk about them, spoiling them in the process.

Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Poster

To be honest, some of the moments are also so good that having them spoiledcan actually build a person’s excitement for the series. That was the case for me. At the same time, while there are killer moments I think will look beautiful in motion, the manga’s presentation of those same scenes is exactly what builds so much hype.

This isn’t about making life easier for people who want to spoil the series for others, it’s about making life better as a fan who isn’t caught up with the things they want to spoil.Jujutsu Kaisenis such a dense and rich manga, withso much to interpret. Its characters and scenarios bleed complexity. Fans who are familiar with the anime have already gotten a taste of this withGojo and Geto’s backstory.

Jujutsu Kaisenis thematically open, andit’s a lot of fun to talk about—and if an anime fan already feels that way, it will be blown wide open by the developments after the Shibuya Incident. Every fan ofJujutsu Kaisenshould read the manga, even if they’ll never read any others. The irony of the manga ending while the anime has just reached the end of the Shibuya Incident arc is that the real importance of everything that’s been happening isn’t clear yet.

If you already loveJujutsu Kaisen, then reading it will only make you love it more. Or, maybe, you’ll be one of the people who doesn’t like the direction Gege takes the manga, and that’s fine too. The point is thatyou don’t know until you read.Jujutsu Kaisen’s second half will be incredible when it’s animated, but its manga alone has turned a casual fan who struggled to read manga into a lifelong one. A fan willing to tell otherJujutsu Kaisenfans they’re doing themselves a disservice by waiting for the anime, in fact.
