Horizon Chapter 2 Reviews Are In - Does Kevin Costner’s Epic Western Sequel Improve From Chapter 1’s Poor Reviews?

TheHorizon: An American Sagafranchise has gotten a surprising update. Directed by and starring Kevin Costner, the Western film also features Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, Ella Hunt, and Tim Guinee. ThefirstHorizonfilm was met with mixed reviewsandbombed completely at the box office with just a $38.2 million return against a $100 million budget.Chapter 2was intended to be released later in the summer, but the first movie’s financial disappointments caused it to be removed from the release calendar.

PerPuck, theHorizonsaga is now getting a behind-the-scenes documentary. The documentary is being developed by Costner’s WME but appears to not yet have a streamer. The source claims that Max, which is currently streamingHorizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1, is aware of the documentary project but has not seen clips from it yet.

What This Means For The Horizon Franchise

Horizon’s Future Is Still Uncertain

The news of thedocumentary comes at a time when the future of the Western franchise is still unclear. At one point,Costner had announced plans for two additional filmsafterChapter 2. With Warner Bros. indefinitely postponing therelease ofHorizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, it is unlikely thatChapter 3andChapter 4will ever come to fruition.

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 Ending Explained

Kevin Costner’s long-gestating passion project kicked off with the introduction of a sprawling list of locations and characters set in the Old West.

Because of the derailment of these franchise plans, the announcement of theHorizonbehind-the-scenes documentary is unexpected. The release struggles of the first two films will likely pose a challenge for this new venture as it looks to find a distributor. Because Max is the current host ofHorizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1,it seems likely that HBO Documentaries would potentially take on the project. However, they would be taking a risk in doing so due to the franchise’s track record.

Our Take On The Horizon Documentary

The Documentary Itself Could Be Fascinating

Puck’s statement about theHorizondocumentary states: “this could become a cult classic of hubris and unintended irony.” The behind-the-scenes documentary could indeed be fascinating to audiences on this level. While Costner may be self-indulgent by bothering to make the documentary, the insight the film could give about his Western ambition may be far more interesting than any actual content relating toHorizon’s filmmaking. This could mean unexpected success for the documentary, but it can only find said glory once it gets a distributor.
