Disneynow releases a new teaser forLilo & Stitch, putting a new spin on a beach scene from the original movie. The caption for the video also includes a logline for the upcoming movie, which teases a close adherence to the storyline of the 2002 original:

What The Teaser Means For The Lilo & Stitch Remake
The Original Movie’s Beach Scene Served An Important Purpose In The Story
The sand castle scene in the originalLilo & Stitchcomes during a montage set to “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” in which Stitch grows closer to Lilo and her sister, Nani. The sequence features Stitch not only attempting to make a sand castle but also learning how to surf, andthe montage is ultimately a crucial part of Stitch becoming a member of Lilo’s family. That a similar sequence is featured in the latest teaser for the live-action remake would suggest that the remake will be putting its own spin on this aspect of the original.
Every Lilo & Stitch Movie & TV Show, Ranked
Since Lilo & Stitch’s release in 2002, the iconic Disney franchise has spawned several other films and TV shows, so there’s plenty of Stitch to enjoy.
It’s unclear whether the remake will feature the same montage set to “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride,” but the above clip suggests thataudiences shouldn’t expect a one-to-one recreation of the animated movie. All ofDisney’s live-action remakesthus far have hit the key plot points and character elements of their respective originals while also taking creative liberties in certain areas. The scene of Stitch destroying sand castles could be one of these creative liberties, and it affirms that Stitch will be especially mischievous in the upcoming film.

Lilo & Stitchwill mark Disney’s second live-action remake in 2025, with the first beingSnow Whitestarring Rachel Zegler.
Our Take On The New Lilo & Stitch Teaser
The Remake Is Leaning Into Stitch’s Mischievous Nature
Thoughreviews forThe Little Mermaidremake were generally positive last year, Disney has understandably caught some flack for its live-action remakes, as these films can sometimes feel more like cynical business endeavors than artistic ones. Overall,Lilo & Stitchlikely won’t stray too far from the formula that has been employed with previous remakes, but it is reassuring to see the teaser putting a new spin on a scene from the original instead of just being a carbon copy of it.
This isn’t to say that some scenes in the remake won’t be one-to-one recreations, butleaning into Stitch as a character and what made him so beloved and funny in the first place is a promising direction. So far, the promotional materials have been focusing mostly on the humor surrounding Stitch, but the live-actionLilo & Stitchremake will also have to capture the emotion of the original if it is to succeed.
