One ofStar Wars’most bizarre characters, Jaxxon T. Tumperakki, was introduced in the Legends MarvelStar Warscomics of the 1970s, but he has since become canon. The original MarvelStar Warscomic book series—the very firstStar Warscomic book series to exist—ran from 1977 to 1986. The series consisted of a staggering 107 issues, and it introduced a whole host of brand-new characters.

Those comics proved quite popular, but the stories within them are not part ofthe canonStar Warstimeline. When Disney boughtStar Wars, many of the books published during this era were categorized as Legends, although these comics weren’t exactly considered canon in the first place. Even so,one unique character from this series, Jaxxon, has officially becomeStar Warscanon, and while he has yet to appear inStar Warsmovies and TV shows, he has a fascinating history in the franchise.

Who Is Jaxxon, Star Wars' Rocket Rabbit?

Star Wars' Lepi Smuggler Worked Alongside Han Solo

Jaxxon was introduced inStar Wars(1977) #8 as a Lepi, or Lepus carnivorus, smuggler born on the planet Coachelle Prime. Like Jaxxon, the members of this species were effectively large rabbits, making them particularly unique inStar Wars. While there are a number of unusual species in both Legends and canon, the Lepi reflect a real-life creature made sentient and added to the galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars' Next TV Show Is Bringing Back A Species That Hasn’t Been Seen Since The 1980s

David Lowery has revealed that a Star Wars species that hasn’t been seen in franchise media since the 1980s will officially return in Skeleton Crew.

Jaxxon had an unusual upbringing, raised in a family with 13 total children (presumably a play on the birth rates of actual rabbits). His parents expected him to grow into a lifestyle similar to theirs, which was a quiet existence focused on family. Throughout his young life, though, Jaxxon rejected these expectations, always wanting something greater for himself. After years of getting in plenty of trouble because of his lack of conformity, Jaxxon struck out on his own, stealing a freighter and heading for the Outer Rim planets.

In Legends, Jaxxon was at first a mercenary, although he ultimately switched to being a smuggler. Jaxxon even joined the Star-Hoppers of Aduba-3, a group of mercenaries created by none other than Han Solo. During that arc, Jaxxon and the other Star-Hoppers protected Aduba-3, a farming village, from a gang, winning the day in the end. Following this heroic effort, the Star-Hoppers were disbanded, but some of them were reunited only a short while later on a mission related to Luke Skywalker.

Jaxxon’s Star Wars Legends Origin

One Of Jaxxon’s Most Important Stories Involved Luke Skywalker

After the Star-Hoppers had defeated the gang on Aduba-3 and gone their separate ways, one member of the Star-Hoppers, Jimm Doshun (interestingly also called “the Starkiller Kid”), was mistaken for Luke Skywalker.Because Luke Skywalker was wanted for his Rebel activity at the time, this sent formidable bounty hunter and ex-stormtrooper Beilert Valance, also called Valance the Hunter, after him. To protect his former team member, Jaxxon and another member of the Star-Hoppers, Amaiza Foxtrain, went after them.

Luckily, Jaxxon and Foxtrain were able to stop Valance from harming Doshun, wiping out nearly all of Valance’s men in the process. Valance managed to escape with his life, though, and he quickly realized Doshun was not Luke Skywalker after all and set back out to find the real Luke. After these events, Jaxxon and Foxtrain returned to the smuggling business they had established together, parting ways with their former Star-Hoppers member yet again. Jaxxon’s canonStar Warsstory has followed some similar beats, but it has major departures as well.

How Jaxxon Returned After 20 Years Of Obscurity

That Clone Wars Easter Egg Wasn’t Jaxxon…But He Is Canon Now

Many believed that Jaxxon made his (tragic) on-screen debut inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, although that proved to not be the case. InThe Clone Warsseason 5, episode 11, “A Sunny Day in the Void,” a Lepi skeleton was shown, wearing a tattered and decayed outfit similar to Jaxxon’s own in the comics. Because of those connections, viewers believed this could be the remains of Jaxxon himself. In the end, this was only an Easter egg, but Jaxxon’s time inStar Warscanon has since come.

Jaxxon T. Tumperakki was introduced intoStar Warscanon in the 2018 canon comic book The Lost Eggs of Livorno.

Jaxxon T. Tumperakki was introduced intoStar Warscanon in the 2018 comic bookThe Lost Eggs of Livorno. The story, set between 0 ABY and 3 ABY, centered on Jaxxon and Foxtrain, reuniting the smuggler team seen throughout Jaxxon’s Legends arc.Jaxxon’s canon story differs from his Legends arc considerably in terms of his interactions with other majorStar Warscharacters, however, both in this story and beyond.

Jaxxon’s Role In Star Wars Canon

Jaxxon Has Encountered Some Of Star Wars' Greatest Heroes

InThe Lost Eggs of Livorno, Foxtrain and Jaxxon were hired by Queen Prizzi of Livorno to bring eggs—the last of her species—to Leia Organa herself. Initially, Jaxxon was more than a little hesitant to engage in any sort of Rebel activity, but Foxtrain ultimately goaded him into it by implying that Han Solo would have been a better crew member than Jaxxon. Unfortunately, Jaxxon was double-crossed by Foxtrain, who stole the real eggs and swapped them out with decoys.

By the end ofThe Lost Eggs of Livorno, Jaxxon thankfully recovered the eggs and was able to successfully deliver them to Han Solo and Leia Organa, bringing him face-to-face with two ofStar Wars’greatest heroes. In addition to Han Solo and Leia Organa, Jaxxon has also encountered Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Maz Kanata. Following his adventure with the eggs, Jaxxon discovered he had a bounty on his head, and mid-escape from the bounty hunter Dengar, Jaxxon was taken aboard the iconic Millennium Falcon by Luke, Han, and Chewie.

Characters from Star Wars Skeleton Crew

After the Battle of Endor, Jaxxon found himself in trouble yet again, this time captured by Commodore Visler Korda for trying to rescue Chancellor Asera of Rekkana. In the end, Jaxxon was rescued by Lando Calrissian, and together Jaxxon and Lando managed to free Chancellor Asera. In yet another arc, Jaxxon also encountered Maz Kanata.

Skeleton Crewcould be the perfect opportunity for Jaxxon’s on-screen debut.

Despite these many significant canon storylines, Jaxxon has yet to be shown on-screen inStar Wars, yet many are wondering if that is about to change.Star Wars’next TV show,Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is set to be released on Disney+ on December 2nd, and given the show is set duringthe New Republic timelineand will involve pirates, some believeSkeleton Crewcould be the perfect opportunity for Jaxxon’s on-screen debut. With rumors flying about what other MarvelStar Warscharacters may be appearing inSkeleton Crew, this is certainly possible.
