Over the years, Marvel has introduced a number of “young” Avengers squads – includingthe literal Young Avengers, thefreshly-rebooted New Champions, and the novel Avengers Academy concept. The originalAcademyseries debuted in 2010, running for two years and nearly forty-issues, and was very popular with the fandom. Last year, Marvel resurrected the title as part of the publisher’sMarvel Voicesdigital imprint, and it has once again proven to be a hit with readers, while also receiving critical recognition for its inclusive and intriguing roster, which truly feels like thenext generation of Marvel heroes.
Now,Avengers Academy: Assemble#1 will collect the first half-dozen issues of the series, which emphasizes the success of the seriesso far. As author Anthony Oliviera noted:

The unbelievable roar of enthusiasm and energy that has met our AVENGERS ACADEMY series has been one of the greatest joys of my life, and I’m so glad it can now find the hands of collectors who want to read these adventures in classic ink-and-paper - both the online fans who’ve been clamoring for it, and the curious who have been wondering what the heck we’ve been getting up to over there on Marvel Unlimited!
As much as the digitization of comics, new and old alike, has revolutionized the medium, many readers still prioritize physical copies of their books, for one reason or another. So, for fans who haven’t hadAvengers Academy, orMarvel’s Voicesin general, on their radar, this will be a perfect entry-point to a stable of new, thrilling characters, including Marvel’s latest powerhouse, Kid Juggernaut.
Avengers Academy’s Roster Is A Mix Of New Characters & Twists On Classics
Forecasting The Future For Kid Juggernaut, Bloodline, & The Rest Of The Squad
Kid Juggernaut has made an immediate impactin Marvel lore since his introduction, as it was established that the hero is the true heir to the powers of the Juggernaut, which has led to a powerful story about reclaiming cultural heritage, which has elevated the character above the critique levied against many “new” versions of classic characters. Similarly, characters like Bloodline echo familiar Marvel heroes – in her case, her Daywalker father, Blade – while others, like Moon Girl, are fully new characters that deserve more of a spotlight.
Author Anthony Oliveira and his creative collaborators have proven that this roster has what it takes to make it on the big stage of Marvel, as this new generation ofAvengerscontinues to make a powerful impression.
More than anything else, this iswhat distinguishesAvengers Academyfrom other Marvel titles featuring young heroes, and what makes it a must-read.The “heroes-in-training” conceit of theAcademyseries is a great foundation for a dramatic and action-packed series, but the collection of characters that round out the roster is what makes, or breaks, a series like this.
