Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXtakes place in an alternate take on the iconic Universal Century timeline whereGundamantagonist Char Aznable stole the Gundam from the Federation. With the power of the Gundam, Char had even more success in the One Year War while still secretly planning to take down Zeon, but in a climactic battle,Char had a mysterious and mystical encounter with a Newtype that resulted in him and the Gundam disappearing. The incident would go on to be known as the Zeknova Incident, and following it, the One Year War ended in Zeon’s victory.
Five years later, while Zeon and the Federation are technically at peace, tensions are still high between the groups, which leads to neither group being a great place to live. Amidst the tension, the poor, the immigrants, and other disenfranchised people find relief in Clan Battles, an underground Mobile Suit fighting ring, and after a chance encounter with a courier that lead to a conflict with Zeon,Amate “Machu” Yuzuriha joins the Clan Battles with the stolen Gundam GQuuuuuuX to learn more about her blossoming Newtype abilities and to get closer to Shuji Ito, a mysterious Newtype piloting Char’s Gundam.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXis heavily tied to the originalGundamanime and the Universal Century timeline, as a whole; not only is the story heavily tied to major events from the original anime, but numerous characters from the original anime are involved in the plot, as well, and the anime largely expects people to already be familiar with everything. All of that might be hard to grasp for people unfamiliar with the Universal Century timeline, and as such,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXmight be too inaccessible for people unfamiliar with the works of the Universal Century timeline.
That being said, it shouldn’t be too difficult for newer fans to get into the series.
