Kevin Smith is taking his love for comic books and quirky storytelling develop a new series,Local Heroes, with Universal. Smith is best known for hislow-budget comedy trilogyClerksand his more recent comedy horror filmTusks, among other projects. On the television side, Smith most recently worked on Netflix’s dualMasters of the Universeshows,RevelationandRevolution.

According toVariety,Smith will serve as writer and executive producer forLocal Heroes, an upcoming mystery-comedy series about comic book store regulars who solve crimes in their hometown. Inspired by Smith’s own comic shop, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, the series promises to blend small-town charm, humor, and mystery. The show is being developed for NBC as theClerksdirector joins forces with30 Rockalums Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan, who are set to co-write and executive produce.
