Martinrevealed in his blog post thatthey’re not set on the title of the show. They are exploring the possibilities of both titles, but haven’t reached a decision. “Yes, I am talking about the newest GAME OF THRONES spinoff show. It’s an adaptation of ‘The Hedge Knight,’ the first of my Dunk & Egg stories. There were two more after that, ‘The Sworn Sword’ and ‘The Mystery Knight.’ They have all been collected in a book called A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS. That’s probably going to be the title of the show as well… unless we go with THE HEDGE KNIGHT. That’s still under discussion.”

It Needs A Better Name
While “Dunk & Egg” as a title doesn’t appeal to Martin because it makes the show sound like a sitcom, it does reflect the theme better.A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knightfollows the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight from Flea Bottom, and the future King Aegon V Targaryen, who decides to shave his head and run away from his family.
Ultimately, the show is about both Dunk and Egg.Given that neither “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” nor “The Hedge Knight” reflects the story, it might be why it’s been hard to determine the show’s title. Though there’sonly a slim chance that the new series will come out asDunk & Egg, given how much Martin dislikes it as a show name, hopefully, what they eventually will come up with will reflect the show’s duo dynamic.
