One Piece’s creator, Eichiro Oda, reveals the truth about one of the most mysterious plot points in his beloved series, but it also comes with disappointing news for fans. The Rocky Port Incidentwas first mentioned more than 10 years ago in chapter #700, and what really happened on that day has finally come to light.
WhileOne Pieceis on a short hiatus,Weekly Shonen Jumpwill publish Oda’s answers to ten of the best and most important questions asked by fans. The answers, which will be published in issue #49 ofWeekly Shonen Jump, are already circulating online, and a fan inquired about the infamous Rocky Port Incident. Unfortunately, not only did Oda not give a detailed explanation as to what happened that day, but he also said thatthe Rocky Port incident would not be shown in the manga, which is not good given the scale and importance of that event.

The Rocky Port Incident Is Finally Revealed
A Three-Way Alliance To Take Down A Major Foe
As reported by @pewpiece on X, from the short summary Oda gave, the Rocky Port Incident was kickstarted by Trafalgar Law, when he hijacked a passenger ship, the Rocky Port, to infiltrate Pirate Island after hearing there was an important Poneglyph there. Law believed that the ship was carrying the king and noblemen of a country, however, it was actually a smuggling vessel, as the country had connections with Pirate Island. Meanwhile, Blackbeard and Koby arrived on the island separately, which led to an unlikely alliance between the three to fight the residents of Hachinosu.
According to what has been already revealed in the story, Blackbear, Law, and Koby took down Ochoku, the ruler of the island and a former member ofthe Rocks Pirates. While it wasn’t revealed why Koby and Blackbeard were on the island, the consequences are well known. Koby became known as “the hero of the Marines”, Law became a member of the Seven Warlords, and Blackbeard ended up as the ruler of Pirate Island. Unfortunately, while Oda’s answer did give fans a clearer idea of what happened, it raised even more questions.

One Piece Keeps Offscreening Important Events
Fans Will Never Get to See the Rocky Port Incident
A major criticism of the series is that it glosses over important scenes, and this latest one isn’t the first. The biggest ones that come to mind are Akainu and Aokiji’s battle, Kaido and Shanks' confrontation, Zoro losing his eye, the Blackbeard Piratesattacking the Revolutionary Army’sheadquarters, and more. This time is worse, sinceOda confirmed that the Rocky Port Incident won’t appear in the main story, killing all hopes that it might one day be shown just like how a glimpse of the God Valley Incident was revealed in Kuma’s backstory.
One Pieceis going full steam ahead in its final saga, so it’s normal that some things won’t be expanded on, considering just how vast the world created by Oda is. However, the Rocky Port Incidentdeserved more than just a summary since it has been mentioned a lot of times in the story, and it was a key moment for Blackbeard’s ascension to power.
