What Happened In One Piece Episode #1121?
Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Sho Matsui
One Pieceepisode #1121, “Garp and Kuzan - A Master and a Pupil’s Beliefs Clash,” continued Garp and SWORD’s battle against the Blackbeard Pirates to save Koby. Garp easily defeated both Sanjuan Wolf and Vasco Shot, and with all the civilians and injured Marines safely on the ship, it was finally time to leave Pirate Island. However, Koby was tricked into thinking there was still a civilian on the island, and because of that,Garp was dealt a major wound by Shiryu while trying to protect Koby.
Garp was severely injured by Shiryu, and to make matters worse, Kuzan returned to the battle after seemingly being taken out of commission. As they faced off once more,Garp and Kuzan reflected on their decades-long master-student relationship, starting with Kuzan forcing his way into Garp’s training method of using battleships as sandbags before they gradually grew closer and Kuzan became a trusted confidant. In the present, Garp and Kuzan both declared an end to their relationship, and a powerful punch from both parties sent them both flying more injured than ever.

With Garp seemingly down for the count, Avalo Pizarro declared that it was over for the Marines, and in an attempt to get his own name in the news,Pizarro used his Isle-Isle Fruit to construct a giant arm out of Pirate Island and moved to crush Garp’s ship. Koby panicked, thinking they were all doomed, but Garp, still conscious, assured him that they would win because justice would always prevail, and episode #1121 ended on that note.
One Piece’s Anime Continues To Make Garp & Kuzan’s Friendship As Tragic As Possible
As with previous episodes,One Pieceepisode #1121 did far more to flesh out Garp and Kuzan’s relationship compared to the manga, their flashback being greatly expanded with additional content and fluid animation to add further contrast with their fight, and they even included a moment of Garp and Kuzan seeing younger versions of each other in their final clash. All of it adds far more impact to their conflict compared to the manga, and it’s another prime example of how goodOne Piece’s filler contentcan be.
One Piece’s Anime Returns From Break To Incredible Fanfare
After a sudden week off, theOne Pieceanime delivered another episode that succeeded on all fronts with episode #1121. With the story content, not only was Garp and Kuzan’s conflict just as dramatic as it was in previous episodes, but seeing the tension in the overall conflict with the Blackbeard Pirates continue to escalate the way it did excellently added to the ever-growing stakes of the current arc.The conflict between SWORD and the Blackbeard Piratesremains one of the most dramatic inOne Piece’s final saga, and however it concludes will be great to see.
Episode #1121 was also a great episode from a visual standpoint. In addition to the animation being consistent and all-around great from start to finish,One Pieceepisode #1121 was another episode filled with flashy action scenes, fluid motion, and fanciful camerawork at every turn, Garp and Kuzan’s flashback and final confrontation being a particular standout. One Pieceepisode #1121 was a perfect episode for the anime to come back to, and with what little has been shown in the preview, episode #1122 will be even better in terms of both story and animation.
