Baldur’s Gate 3players on Honour Mode are running into a frustrating glitch that can easily end the permadeath run. During the finale of Act 2, theboss fight against Ketheric Thromhas seen the villain randomly duplicating himself, with another version of him getting full health after the Apostle of Myrkul takes a turn. This has been a bug plaguing the game for months with no end in sight, nor any record of direct causation. While some players speculate this glitch comes from Tactician difficulty, others have recalled this same thing happening regardless of difficulty level.

TheHonour Mode run is extremely difficultalready, as players only get one shot. Death is permanent, so having a glitch that makes winning almost impossible is not the best experience for players. Ketheric is a chapter-ending boss for a reason, so this glitch seems to occur at an especially unfortunate time. Fortunately, players have been able to come up with a solution to save all the progress made and not completely throw the whole run away. This is good news for anyone trying to finish an Honour Mode run.

Ketheric Thorm Glitch Can Ruin An Hours-Long Honour Mode Run Unfairly

Ketheric Is Powerful, But Isn’t Supposed To Make A Copy Of Himself

Players on Reddit were discussing the glitch and how frustrating it had become. While it is apparently rare, it seems a lot of people are going through it. RedditorCharrybdeezhandsfirst mentioned the two Ketherics showing up to ask why exactly this was happening. Unfortunately, it seems no one has a clear understanding of what triggers the bug. Some believe it is somehow linked to playing on Tactician difficulty or above, though this has yet to be proven as definitive. Mods also seemingly have nothing to do with triggering the glitch.

Loads of players chimed in with their own experiences, noting how the two Ketherics either ruined their Honour Mode run or made victory almost impossible. Reddit userAren13GamerZdid manage to win, but said the process was extremely difficult and almost killed their whole party. They stated, “It happened to me too in my current gameplay. My second Ketheric was revived by Myrkul’s Avatar when he [cast Call of the Damned]. I killed Myrkul and then I killed Ketheric again." They go on to say a combination ofguardian of faithandsilencewas used to distract the second Ketheric during the fight.

While frustrating, there is a benefit to the bug: if both Ketherics are defeated, players get two sets of his armor.

While they did manage to pull through, the same could not be said for every other player. As previously stated, the most frustrating thing about this glitch is players only get one shot at an Honour Mode run. Defeating Ketheric seems to be easy enough, but after taking so many hits, defeating a second one feels inherently cruel and unnecessary. After RedditorDestinovaEtherealdied, they mentioned how they just deleted the whole file and started over, as they did not want to have a dishonourable continuation. However, there appears to be a fix to the glitch, though it isn’t seamless.

The solution is far from ideal, butplayers mentioned how they force quit and, upon reloading, there was no second Ketheric. This also will help players not lose their entire Honour Mode run, which is just a better experience overall. Yet there have been reports that this didn’t work for everyone, with people mentioning these hard resets did not allow them to justcontinue their Honour Mode playthrough.

BG3’s Two Ketherics Glitch Does Not Have A Permanent Solution

Two Is Not Better Than One

This glitch has been around for months and seems to have no fix in sight. Reddit posts dating back to four months ago note how the glitch has been affecting players' games and Honour Mode attempts, yetthere has been no official announcement of a fix or acknowledgment of the bug. While the solution for now is to simply hard reset the game or unplug the device, that hardly feels like the most efficient or effective way.

For now, the best solution if a player is greeted with two Ketherics is to try a hard reset, hopefully circumventing a the save file becoming labeled dishonourable, which doesn’t always work. And while this is not the ideal solution, it may allow players to continue theirBaldur’s Gate 3Honour Mode playthrough.
