Rumors are thatPokémon Legends: Z-Amay bring back one of the best features fromLegends: Arceus, as seen from an official patent filed by Nintendo.Legends: Z-Ashould be the next main game from the franchise, as it is the only one announced so far as players eagerly await the reveal of the Generation 10 games. While the details are still scarce, the upcoming title should build upon the format offered byLegends: Arceusand possibly take advantage of somegameplay features inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
It seems like one of the main gameplay mechanics from these games may make a return. As seen in apatentfiled by Nintendo (viaComicBook),Ride Pokémon or mounts may return inLegends: Z-A. The official programming language used in the patent may leave more details open to interpretation and the specific title it refers to is not confirmed, but it does seem like players’ characters in an upcoming game will be able to alter between their “boarding target objects,” which may very well be the Ride Pokémon inPokémon Legends: Z-A.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A May Bring Back Ride Pokémon From Legends: Arceus
The Next Pokémon Game Could Have An Open-World Or Open-World Map Sections
The patent states that players could be able to change between these different mount-type of objects and that they would allow the players’ characters to have access to ground, water, and air. This would not necessarily be anything new sinceLegends: Arceusoffered players the chance to use different types of Ride Pokémonto traverse land, air, and sea. Mounts like Sneasler even allowed them to climb mountains, for example.
This may simply be a patent to ensure that the gameplay mechanics return with therelease ofPokémon Legends: Z-A.

Of course, as is the case with any sequel, there is a chance that not only willplayers have more Ride Pokémon options with the new game, but the way they perform may even be enhanced. InLegends: Arceus, the flying was somewhat limited and players could not ascend as easily as they descended. This was somewhat replicated with Koraidon and Miraidon in the Gen 9 games,Scarlet and Violet, and then enhanced, as the mascot Legendaries were then able to fully take flight with theIndigo DiskDLC.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Can Finally Fix Legends: Arceus' Biggest Mistake
For all its merits, Pokémon Legends: Arceus fails in one crucial category. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is perfectly poised to fix that mistake.
Based on the patent, it seems like Nintendo is working on making the transition between the Ride Pokémon a lot smoother, shifting from aerial navigation to aquatic exploration seamlessly, for example. If the patent is truly referent to the nextPokémongame, then players may truly see the return of Ride Pokémon inPokémon Legends: Z-Ain what seems like a fairly enhanced state.
