InSatisfactory, players must constantly gather raw materials to refine and craft into more high-tech materials and products. One such material is Mycelia, or fungus, which can be used for fuel for generators or crafting parts. However, Mycelia is a bit rarer than other raw plant matter to come by, with only a few areas early on that have it.
The quickest way to find Mycelia is tokeep an eye out for caves, which can be found as small openings at the base of cliff wallsin early areas. Once you find one, you can harvest from the mushrooms inside. There are a few more places to find this resource, and some are more efficient. Here is where to find Mycelia inSatisfactory, and how to use it.

Where To Find Mycelia
What To Look For When Exploring The World Of Satisfactory
In the startingGrass Fieldsarea, there are only bushes and trees available to harvest. However, byfinding caves, you can venture down below to harvest mushrooms early on to gatherMycelia. In the early stages, Mycelia can be especially useful forgenerating Biomass, and later Biofuel, asit has a higher refining ratiothan leaves and wood.
Satisfactory: How To Find SAM (& What It’s For)
SAM is used to finish endgame projects in Satisfactory. However, its nodes are scattered around the world, making it possible to collect it early.
The best way to find these caves is to keep an eye out at thebases of cliffsfor small openings, which can be easy to miss. However, exploring at nightcan make this easier, as the mushrooms inside caves glow blue in the dark and can be seen when passing closely by. One such cave is around the top of a large cliffbetween two small pondsin the starting area. It loops underneath the cliff and puts out at the bottom.

Once you find a cave, you’re able to return every so often to harvest more mushrooms. The smaller mushrooms can bepicked by hand, so you can gather them early on. The large mushrooms, however, require a chainsawto cut down.
Upgrading Chainsaws
Gather More Types Of Mushrooms & Gather Faster
Once you reachTier 2in the HUB, you can now complete theObstacle Clearing milestone, which unlocks the chainsaw. Once crafted, chainsaws use Biofuel and will clear an entire radius around you when cutting down trees and bushes. They also can be used on new types of mushrooms that can be found on the surface, particularly in theSouthern Forest area.
Be careful aboutStingersin this area, which are quick, wickedspider creaturesthat can jump exceptionally high. However, they tend to beless activein the daytime.

Once here, you can findpillars of mushroomssticking out of the ground that can be harvested with the chainsaw. These yield a large amount of Mycelia. In general, gathering Mycelia here is faster than using caves.
Mycelia Research
Everything Unlocked With Mycelia
Like most resources in the game, harvesting Mycelia for the first time will trigger ADA to notify you ofnew research available at the MAM, or Molecular Analysis Machine. By providing raw Mycelia and other resources, you canunlock the different nodesto gain new rewards and craftable items.
Crafting: Medicinal Inhaler
Each node only takesthree secondsto research. However, you have tounlock previous nodesto research the next item. Some branches, such as theSynthetic Polyester Fabric, won’t be unlocked until later as the materials requireat least Tier 5to obtain.
Using Mycelia In Satisfactory
The Most Important Recipes That You Can Craft
While Mycelia may not be used in many recipes, it’sstill a valuable resourcethat you’ll find yourself needing even into the endgame. Besides generating fuel forBiomass Burners, Mycelia is pivotal in several medicinal recipes, calledInhalers. These consumables refill your full health bar in a pinch, but must be held in a hand slot to use.
10x Biomass

1x Fabric
Equipment Workshop
1x Therapeutic Inhaler
Additionally, Mycelia is a component ofFabric, which is needed to produce theParachuteand other items. Besides the Parachute, Fabric won’t be needed for much at first. However, once you reach later tiers, Fabricis a key component to make theGas Mask and Hazmat Suit. These unlock in Tier 5 and Tier 7 respectively, and both protect you from the elements when equipped.
Unfortunately, gathering Myceliacannot be automated. You will need to manually find and harvest Mycelia to craft with.

TheGas Maskprotects you from poisonous clouds while exploring the planet, and you’ll need to periodically create newGas Filtersto refill your mask. TheHazmat Suitis needed for approaching and handling radioactive materials. It’s refillable filter, theIodine Infused Filter, needs Gas Filters to craft, so you’ll consistently need Fabric well intoSatisfactory’s end game.
